Adjusting Levels

Here is the original photograph. I am going to adjust the levels on this photograph using Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Here I selected Image Adjustments Levels…

When selected, this window opens, showing you a graph of the input levels. Which can be adjusted by dragging the sliders or inputting numbers.

I adjusted range to make it lower, and changed the middle point.

Before + After

Here you can see that the lighter areas of the photograph are brighter and the darks are much more vivid.
