‘Would rather’ means ‘would prefer to’. It is followed by the infinitive with out to.

Would you rather attend the class or go home?How about watching a movie in the cinema hall? I’d rather have some urgent work.

We can use ‘would rather’ to say that one person would prefer another person to do something. We express this with a ‘past tense.

I’d rather you completed your home work.Do you want another cup of coffee? I’d rather you didn’t.
