UK: world leader in animal

welfare

The UK has always been a leader regarding animal welfare: 1822: Richard

Martin's Act to Prevent the Cruel and Improper Treatment of Cattle was

passed, making this the first Parliamentary legislation for animal welfare in

the world

1824: creation of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

2. Why?

Animal welfare

750, 000, 000 animals and 650, 000 tons of fish are slaughtered each year for food in Britain.

Dairy calves are separated from the cow soon after being born

Even when eggs are “free range”, the male chicks are thrown alive into electronic mincers or instantly gassed to death.
