Reverse engineering for pump repair

Keeping an industry working

When a pump goes down repairs need to fast and done right. Often the original parts are unavailable due to a pump being obsolete or a part being back ordered.

The shop needs accurate CAD data to create a model, drawing, and create “G-code” prior to machining the part

Part is securely mounted for scanning

Scan with FARO V3 laser scanner

Laser has unique capability to capture surface data deep in vane cavities

Combine top and bottom point cloud scans

Complete point cloud created from top and bottom scans

SOLIDWORKS model created via RAPIDFORM XOR* from point cloud

data.

*Services performed by PSH Mechanical Design.

Ready for g-code creation and machining

Advantages over measurement with hand tools

“Speed”- a couple of hours scanning vs. a couple of days measuring.

Reduction of error due to measurement fatigue and human error.

Ability to digitize difficult to measure features Final result can be easily verified for accuracy Overall savings in time and an increase in quality of

the final product for the customer.
