Definition of Engineering

According to ABET, Engineering is:

“The profession in which a knowledge of the

mathematical and natural sciences gained by study,

experience, and practice is applied with judgment to

develop ways to utilize, economically, the material

forces of nature for the benefit of mankind.

Engineering is a profession like medicine,

law, etc. that aspires to high standards of

conduct and recognizes its responsibility to

the general public.

Scientist - Like an engineer, but a primary

What is engineering design?

• Engineering design is the set of decision-making

processes and activities used determine the form of an

object given the functions desired by the customer.

• Engineering design is the process of devising a system,

• It is a decision-making process (often iterative), in

which the basic science and mathematics and

engineering sciences are applied to convert resources
