Save Our NHS

Protect It From Civil Litigation

More Damages - Less Legal Fees CampaignThe NHS and the public lose billions of pounds every year in

litigation costs. A simple no-fault compensation framework

could give patients more compensation *and* save the NHS

enough money to pay for some really great things“Saving the NHS for our Grandchildren” presentation 11 June 2016

1) Increased damage payments due to NHS mistakes

2) Speedier and less stressful claim processing

3) Improved quality of care for all NHS users

4) The above three core aims being funded by

less legal fees being paid by the NHS.

Not counted are GP and Dentist litigation costs Also not counted are unnecessarily ordered tests, procedures, referrals and admittances

as well as the human cost (wasted time and stress of medics, claimants, managers etc), as well as unrecovered legal fees of claimants

NHS Litigation Authority figures : Legal costs 350% of claims up to £10,000

“Figure 2: Legal costs as % of damages claimed”

shows that for damages claimed between

£1 - £10,000 in 2014/15 year, the legal costs are

299% (claimant) + 51% (NHS) = 350% of damages

(a 34% rise from 273% + 43% = 316% prior year).

Unclaimed or unrecovered legal costs are an

additional inefficiency and a drain on society.“Saving the NHS for our Grandchildren” presentation 11 June 2016

If we don't save our NHS there will be no one to sue and also be no one to care for our grandchildren for free at the point of care

NHS trusts’ overspend was £822 million in the last financial year. NHS trusts’ overspend is £1,600 million in the first 6 months of this financial year.

This implies a MASSIVE full year overspend. The current trajectory is unsustainable.

Let us be proactive and choose our radical solution whilst there is still an NHS to save.

We are in a vicious cycle now:Litigation leading to exorbitant legal fees, stress and unnecessary treatments

which damages the quality of care across the nation which then leads to more litigation.

A no-fault compensation system for the NHS would turn this round into a virtuous cycle
