BEFORE ANDROID
1. Multitude of Feature Phone platforms • Symbian, BREW, Windows Phone etc.
2. Bringing out a phone program included a complex phase of building the phone software using one of these frameworks
3. Building an UI used to be quite a task. 4. Niche Developers were tough to find and difficult to
retain as they were high in demand.

AFTER ANDROID
1. Drawing Phone UI become cakewalk2. Basic features of a phone started coming bundled
with the Operating System itself3. Android Application layer was java-like, helping build
up developer ecosystem faster4. Being a complete open source program, opened up
opportunity for Device driver engineers5. Overall time-to-market for a phone program got
reduced to large extent

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 3RD PARTY RND SERVICE INDUSTRY?
1. Reduced size of phone programs2. Change in skillset, change in bench strength3. New issues (like Power/Battery etc.) • Money on the table, but not enough skilled resources
