routes along which domestic freight is transported• 50 US airports• Other strategic assets, intermodal facilities, Class II & III

railroads

• Includes:o 41,518 centerline miles o 37,436 miles of interstateo 4,082 miles of non-interstates

• Must be re-designated every 5 years

Eligible activities include:• Construction• Operational improvements• Freight planning and performance measures

NOTE: Starting in FFY 2018 a Freight Plan is Required

• $900 M/yr (avg) available for competitive grants or TIFIA loans for projects > $100 M

NOTE: There will be set-asides for:• projects below cost threshold,• rural areas

Highway freight projects on Nat’l Highway Freight Network

NHS highway/bridge projects, projects in National Scenic Areas

Freight rail/intermodal projects• < $500 M over 5-year period

Rail-highway grade crossing or grade separation projects
