UNLOCK YOUR POWER TO INNOVATE

Presented by :- Ritesh Kumar Mittal & Umashankar Behera

Necessity is the mother of invention

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference.

An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea at all.

Ideas are useless unless used.

Without Innovation, wheel would have been a tool in the hands of the potters only ~ Richard Arkwright (Father of Industrial Revolution)

COME, LET US UNLEASH THE POWER OF INNOVATION

WE DREAM…WE INNOVATE…WE EXCEL

Wheel of Industrial Revolution

“An idea that is unique is an invention, but an idea that is both unique and useful is an innovation.

Efforts must be made towards integrating usefulness into every unique idea.”

Balancing Creativity With Innovation is necessary.

Steve Jobs of Apple Corporation didn’t wait for the market to request for an iPod or an iPhone,

he went ahead to create what he believed long before the market ever thought they would be needing it.

The whole world didn’t know their information needed to be organized until Google came along and changed everything.

Innovation is about discovery

The key to successful innovation is able to move from drawing board to business benefit.

Best archer is the one who can only see his target and nothing else.

When Ace was launched in May 2005, it swept the market. "Tata Motors got the first mover advantage.

Chairman Ratan Tata

Was identifying opportunities especially at the bottom of the pyramid.

Tata Ace fitted that objective perfectly, Tata was very excited.

At the end, he [Tata] said we should do the product.

"What was supposed to be a 10-minute presentation went on for 45 minutes.

DOUBLE DIAMOND MODEL

INNOVATE OR DIE

During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this

“We didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”.

They missed out on learning.

They missed out on changing.

They lost their chance of survival.

Message of this story is :- if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the Competition.

Conclusion of this story is :- The advantage you have yesterday, will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow.

Those who refuse to learn & improve, will definitely one day become redundant & not relevant to the industry.

Samsung borrowed liberally from Apple's innovation relied on Google's Android platform, And by beating Apple on price, it's taken over the world market.

The story of Nokia's fall is also the story of the Smartphone rise.

To disrupt or to be disrupted

How Reframing a Problem Unlocks Innovation ?

5 + 5 = 10

What numbers add up to 10 ?

Albert Einstein is quoted as saying, "If I had an hour to solve a problem

and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first fifty-five minutes determining the proper question to ask, for once I know the proper question,

I could solve the problem in less than five minutes."

4 LENSES OF INNOVATION

“Almost by definition, innovators tend to be contrarians and nonconformists.”

ASK: how will my business fundamentally change in the next 5 years?

““Innovators think of a company not in terms of what it is or what it does, but of what it knows.”

Innovators see things from the customer’s perspective.

“If you don’t listen to your customers you will fail. But if you only listen to your customers you will also fail.”

Stop selling what you have. Start selling what they need.

Nicholas Copernicus said in 15th Century that Earth revolves around sun

It was common belief that sun revolves around earth.

The culture is even more extreme at Facebook, where Berman explained that

“Fail often to succeed sooner.”

“Embrace failure” “Fail forward” “Fail hard” “Fail fast”

It needs to be accepted as part of life, business, and innovation.

“No one is criticized for failing but, rather, for not trying hard enough.”

Myth vs RealityMistaken notions about innovations and its executions abound.

Here are some of them.

"Our best innovation was the Goodknight Fast Card, a very low-cost mosquito repellent (costing Re 1),

which does not require electricity. It has been very successful both in India and Indonesia",

shares ADI GODREJ, Chairman, Godrej groupMobile telephony in India has been one of most significant innovations. India has one of the lowest tariffs in the world. Teledensity in 2000 was 0.4 per cent, in 2010, it was 68 percent," says DEEPAK PAREKH, Chairman, HDFC.

"One innovation that truly illustrates HUL's commitment to improving health and well being of consumers is Pureit.

Pureit addresses one of the biggest challenges – that of making safe drinking water accessible and affordable,"

shares SANJIV MEHTA, CEO & MD, Hindustan Unilever.

SHIKHA SHARMA, MD & CEO, Axis Bank, says: "One prominent innovation in 2013/14 has been the eKYC-based account opening model. This has simplified the process of authenticating people's identity, making it seamless and paperless."

CHANDA KOCHHAR, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank, says: "Our most exciting innovations have been solutions that create convergence between

banking, mobility and social media. They include Pockets, which allows banking transactions on Facebook and Tab Banking, which allows a

customer to open an account from a place of his choice."

Aarambh is a non-profit working out of New Bombay, and their Help Desk looks to tackle many of the problems faced by children in

India’s poorer classrooms.

Aarambh is using discarded cardboard waste to create school bags which unpack into small desks — designed to improve the posture of children who are used to sitting and

writing on the floor.

Innovation is vital for combating climate change and ensuring climate justice.

PM’s speech at the ‘Mission Innovation’ in CoP-21, Paris

We need research and innovation to make renewable energy much cheaper; more reliable; and, easier to connect to transmission grids.

Innovation must be backed by means to make it affordable and ensure adoption.

Through research & innovation, we must make renewable energy cheaper, reliable & conventional energy cleaner.

India's ranking is 81 in Global Innovation Index 2015

"Most innovation fails, but companies that do not innovate also fail"
