• A volcano is a mountain with a large hole at the top.

• This hole is called a crater.

• The mantle is the layer of Earth under the crust. Some areas are very hot and volcanoes can form at these hot spots. As the plates move, the volcanoes form an island chain like The Hawaiian Islands.
