MY PERSONAL BRAND
GOALS
To present myself as a qualified individual in the field of public relations
To position myself as an explorer in the many fields of public relations, with a specific interest in entertainment and not-for-profit
To identify exactly which sector of public relations I will be best suited for
OBJECTIVES
Obtain relationships with at least three PR professionals by December 2009 for mentoring purposes
Regularly engage in three social media applications by December 2009
Volunteer at PR events to gain establish networks and gain a variety of experiences
Define my interests and skills by April 2010 in order to enter the most appropriate sector of PR for me
SITUATION ANALYSIS (SWOT) Strengths:
Experience in the PR field Highly motivated and organized Relationship-oriented/people person Skilled with computer applications and some social media Willing to explore my interests
Weaknesses Lack of specific career focus Occasional struggle to think “outside the box” Too focused on details and not always enough “big picture” ideas
Opportunities To network with PR professionals Learn about a variety of different fields Discover my fit in the PR world Brand myself in a positive light as an authentic individual
Threats Indecisiveness when choosing a career path to take Fear of taking risks in order to find out how to expose myself to the world
KEY MESSAGES
I am dedicated to exploring my personal strengths and interests in order to be able to focus on a particular sector of the PR industry
I value exposure to a variety of experiences in order to discover my passion and skills
I have a strong interest in both the entertainment industry and not-for-profit sector
I am genuine in my passion for public relations and new media, but have yet to discover exactly which field I fit into

STRATEGIES
Limit my online exposure of my brand until I feel confident that it accurately depicts where I see myself currently and in the near future
Utilize this year as an opportunity to network with PR professionals and gain knowledge from my interactions with them
Volunteer with a variety of PR companies to help network myself as well as define my best attributes and best-suited sector of public relations
When I am confident that I have developed my personal brand adequately, I will go to market through my social media outlets
TACTICS
Twitter – tweet about relevant topics to my interests and follow PR professionals in my areas of interest
Blogs – develop a relationship with PR professionals and actively comment on their blogs, encouraging them to do the same with my own blog
Mentor – achieve a relationship with a PR professional to network and also gain knowledge from a person with a wealth of industry experience
Volunteer – at a variety of PR events to network and learn more about the industry
CRITICAL PATH
Update LinkedIn profile by the end of November
Start blogging and following blogs regularly, starting immediately
Begin commenting on PR professionals blogs immediately
Engage in a Twitter search on topics of interest at least once weekly – starting in the first week of November
CONCLUSION
My brand is somewhat inconclusive as I am still discover who I am and who I want to become. In the meantime, I am learning as I go and trying to achieve an overall brand of a responsible young professional with a keen interest in public relations and excitement to get started in a career in PR.
