Web3.0 & How Mobile APPs help in the Development of Various Industries
Speaker: Mr. Alex HungCrossover International Co. LtdEmail: alex@crossover-int.com18th Jul 2013
Who am I?
• Over 18 years experience in the IT industry with both technical and business perspectives.
• MBA and MSc in ISM from HKUST, and a Computer Science degree conferred by HKU.
• Web3.0 expert – Enhance Web2.0 Business Model– Social Network – Mobile Computing – Pervasive Computing – Artificial Intelligence
Web 3.0
Mr. Alex HungManaging Director of Crossover International Co. Ltd.
Web 1.0
• Read-only Content and Static HMTL websites

Web 2.0• User Generate Content and Social network

Web 3.0• Semantic Web, machine can read the data
and help us

Semantic Web?
• The sites you visit every day use natural language, images and page layout to present information– easy for you to understand.
• But computers can't make sense of all this information. – can't read, see relationships or make decisions
like you can.
• The Semantic Web proposes to help computers "read" and use the Web.

Introduction to How Semantic Web Works
• The idea is pretty simple– metadata added to Web pages can make the
existing World Wide Web machine readable.
• It will give machines tools to find, exchange and, to a limited extent, interpret information.
• It's an extension of the World Wide Web.
Why Semantic Web?
• Suppose you want to buy something online with some basic criteria
Your best bet would be to look at different retailers' web
pages, comparing prices and shipping times and rates; or
look for a site that will compare prices and shipping options from several retailers all at once.
Why Semantic Web?
• With the Semantic Web, you could enter your preferences into a computerized agent– which would search the Web, find the best
option for you, and place your order.
• The agent could then – open personal finance software and record the
amount you spent on your computer, – mark the date of arrival on your calendar. – learn your habits and preferences
Page 10 of 23
Why Semantic Web?
• The agent would do by searching through metadata that clearly identify and define what the agent needs to know.
• Metadata– simply machine-readable data that describe
other data. – invisible as people read the page, but they're
clearly visible to computers.
• Metadata can also allow more complex, focused Web searches with more accurate results.
• When you try to search some information on the web...
• You have to – consult a large numbers of sites.– mentally integrate all those information to
achieve your goals.
• Because current web is web of documents.
• Documents is unstructured, i.e.:unstructured data structured data

Why Semantic Web?
• Semantic web enables people to share content beyond the boundaries of applications and websites.
• The goals are Spend less time on:– Searching– looking at things that do not matter– explaining what we want to computers

W3C and the Future of the Semantic Web
• Decentralization gives developers the freedom to create precisely the tags and ontologies that they need.
• But, different developers might use different tags to describe the same thing, make machine comparisons difficult.
• Critics also question the "identity problem"– does a URI represent a Web page, or does it represent
the concept or object the page describes.
• In the future, off-the-shelf software might include options for adding metadata when creating new documents

Web 3.0 in Digital Libraries
• Semantic digital libraries – integrate information based on different
metadata, e.g.: resources, user profiles, bookmarks, taxonomies
– provide interoperability with other systems (not only digital libraries) on either metadata or communication level or
– delivering more robust, user friendly and adaptable search and browsing interfaces empowered by semantics
Page 16 of 23
Benefits
• Benefits of Semantic Digital Libraries
• new search paradigms for the information space
• providing interoperability on the data level – integrating metadata from various
heterogeneous sources – Interconnecting different digital library systems
Page 17 of 23
Conclusion
• Semantic digital libraries can produce more meaningful results for the user.
• Further developments have evolved the concept of contribution of information and social interactivity between the contributors.
• The future holds much more promising and efficient mechanisms for handling information.

Mobile apps in different industriesIn average, each person in Hong Kong owns about 2.3 SIM cards
50% of them are Smartphones– 70% of people use smartphone while eating – 80% use it while watching TV, and – 90% use it during the toilet time
