How (not) to launch a civic tech program – 8 learnings

Practice what you preach.Be willing to experiment and iterate. Adapt your concepts over time.

Understand local socio-economic context of tech community

Get the community on board as early as possible. Draft the concept of the program together with the community.

3.

Test hypothesis with a community engagement event (a Minimum Viable Prototype)

4.

Get traction with govt by partnering with organizations that are already working with govt.

5.

Collaboration is key! Partner with local organizations and the press.

6.

Manage expectations!Don’t try to convert hackathon projects into Startups.

Storytelling! Tell the story around the app/tool. Mention hurdles, challenges, motivations of the team …
