The Evolution of the Television Experience

The Window is Perfect!

1. Resolution Matters (and it matters a lot!) - 2k (HD) / 4k (UHD) / 8k (Gulp!) 16k (double gulp!)

Why? A. Screen resolution (pixel count) enables image resolution. B. Image resolution invites scrutiny! (visual emersion prompts visceral response = emotional involvement)

2. Resolution Alone is not enough to carry image evolution forward - More Colors (Extended color gamut) - More Image Dynamics (It’s about contrast and color volume, not just brightness!) - More frames per second (It’s about realism)

3. There must be a fresh, meaningful, and realizable commitment to collaboration and innovation (or the evolution of imaging will stop!)

Three GREAT Realizations:

Image Dynamics Matter:

1. Open Standards are Critical to Moving Forward

2. A Willingness to Break Down Barriers Must Be Present

3. If Collaboration is Good, and Innovation is desirable, then Collaboration that drives Innovation is Best!
