Christophe Brunnquell He’s an art director for purple magazine

He brings a sense of balance to his art and magazine work with his positioning of blank spaces

Started working as an art director for Encore magazine when he graduated instead of going to art school.

While he was working for Encore, the editors-in-chief of Purple magazine, Elein Fleiss and Oliver Zahm interviewed Christophe for the magazine. After the interview, Christophe was told that they needed an art director at Purple so he decided to work with them.

He came on board as an art director for Purple in 1993 with their second issue

David Carson

He’s an American graphic designer, art director and surfer

Best known for his magazine design style and his use of experimental typography

Carson was hired by the publisher of Ray Gun who is Marvin Scott Jarrett to design Ray Gun which is a alternative music and lifestyle magazine

Becoming the designer of Ray Gun made Carson well known and gained a lot of interest in his work and he has been featured in publications such as The New York Times and Newsweek.

In 1995, Carson left Ray Gun and started up his own studio called David Carson Design and it is based in New York City. He attracted major clients from all over the United States and during the next three years, Cason was doing work for major brands such as Pepsi Cola, Ray Bans, Nike and British Airways.

He named and designed the first issue of the adventure lifestyle magazine Blue in 1997- he designed the first issue and the first three covers.

In 2000 Carson closed his studio and went to South Carolina for his family

In 2004 he became the freelance creative director of the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston and in 2011 he worked as a worldwide creative director for Bose Corporation

He was invited to judge the European Design Awards in London in both 2010 and 2011

In 2015 he was commissioned to design the posters and publicity for the Harvard Graduate School of Design

He has “changed the public face of graphic design.”- Newsweek magazine

Jop Van Bennekom

Influenced to design from going to a bookstore near his parents’ house at 17 and he saw a book which contained work from members if the Dutch design association called the BNO and this was how he discovered graphics. At high school and art school he read a lot of magazines and also created his own and he was most interested in counter-cultural magazines. The people who had the biggest influence on his work was Karel Martens who was his teacher for five years in Arnham and Mevis+Van Deursen, Armand and Linda who later on became good friends with Jop. He was also influenced by other Dutch designers such as Wim Crouwel and Jan Van Toorn.

The art director, editor and publisher of magazines such as BUTT and Re. BUTT is a gay culture magazine and Re magazine focuses on different issues in each copy.

He was prompted to launch Re-Magazine in 1997 because he states he wanted to “redefine communication” by making a “form of media that was as direct as possible.”

He avoids having clients as he likes to be 100% responsible for his work.

M/M (Paris)

An art and design partnership of Mathias Augustyniak and Micheal Amzalag and it was establishes in Paris in 1992

Best known for their collaborations with well known figures like musicians such as Madonna and Kanye West, with fashion designers such as Yohji Yamamota and Calvin Klein, magazines such as Vogue Paris and Purple Fashion and contempory artists such as Pierre Hughes and Sarah Morris.

M/M was influenced by post punk aesthetics and the Swiss school of graphic design and also the Polish school.

Their most well known designs are hand drawn and are describes as illustrative and expressive.

Yorgo Tloupas

He’s a French- Greek art director and designer

He’s worked for a range of clients including Lacoste, Cartier and Absolut Vodka

His design studio is called Yorgo&Co and was founded in 2011 by Yorgo Tloupas and Emmanuelle Beaudet

His company specializes in brand identity and magazine art direction.

He is currently working on a redesign for the Liberation Media Group

He is the co owner and art director of Black Brows Skis.
