Annie Leibovitz

Her Life She was born as Anna-Lou Leibovitz. She goes by the
nickname "Annie”
Annie was born in 1949 in Waterbury, Connecticut. She is
still living, and currently resides in New York City.
Her artwork
She went to San Francisco Art Institute, beginning in 1967 and then got a job for the
Rolling Stones Magazine.
She was a photographer for the Rolling Stones and then she quickly became the
Chief photographer by the age of 23.
Her work takes her to many different places in order to capture her unique images. She does not focus specifically on one culture,
but more frequently those of celebrity status.
Her techniques
Annie Leibovitz is chiefly a photographer.
She does not use any other mediums for her
artwork.
Annie’s inspiration
Her mother was a
modern dance
instructor and
Annie credits her
mother for her
interest in
photographing
dancers at the
beginning of her
career.

Annie enjoyed
photography and it
began as just
something she was
interested in and
quickly became her
job. She now creates
works that are
displayed in a major
exhibition at the
National Portrait
Gallery in Washington,
D.C.
Most Significant Works
Annie Leibovitz’s most notable works to date
have been the Disney Dream Portraits.
Using a variety of celebrities, she recreates
famous Disney movie images.

Her family
Annie Leibovitz is the mother of
three children. At the age of 51,
she had her daughter, Sarah. In
2005, her twin daughters, Susan
and Samuelle, were born with the
help of a surrogate mother.
Though never married, she was
committed her life long partner,
Susan Sontag, until her death in
2004.
Her legacyAnnie continues to take pictures for the Rolling Stones. She
is still frequently used as a cover photographer. In addition
to work for the Rolling Stones, she continues to photograph
celebrities for the Disney Dream Collection, and for other
works.
