PROFESSIONAL GROUPS

ASSOCIATION FOR CORPORATE GROWTH

Founded in 1954, the Association for Corporate Growth, Inc. (www.acg.org) is the premier global association for

professionals involved in corporate growth, corporate development, and mergers and acquisitions. Today, ACG stands

at over 12,000 members from corporations, private equity, finance and professional service firms representing Fortune

500, Fortune1000, FTSE 100, and mid-market companies in 53 chapters in North America and Europe. Our members,

all leaders in their fields, belong to ACG to be part of an influential community of leaders growing public and private

companies worldwide

Orange County - http://www.acgoc.org/

Los Angeles - http://www.acgla.org

ASSOCIATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS

In 1951 Chicago, a group of machine accountants got together and decided that the future was only beginning for the

TAB machines they were operating. They were members of a local group called the Machine Accountants Association

(MAA). The technology was new; something few people understood and managing this new technology was a skill that

even fewer people possessed. The machine accountants recognized the need to form a professional support group, a

national association, to address the growing issues of this new technology. Thus on December 26, 1951, after a

constitutional convention was held in Chicago, the State of Illinois granted a charter and the National Machine

Accountants Association (NMAA) was founded.

As the industry has evolved, so has the association. Starting as the NMAA, evolving into the DPMA, and then into our

current evolution in 1996 of the ASSOCIATION of INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS (AITP),

the association has kept pace with the changing needs and interests of our members. AITP members span every level of

the IT industry from mainframe systems, to micro systems, to PC based LAN and WAN systems, to virtual systems and

the internet. AITP has special niches created that cater to the special interests of our members. Our members are found

in every facet of society as well. They're in colleges and universities; banking; industry; retail; the armed forces; local,

state and federal governments; hospitals; etc.

ASSOCIATION OF SENIOR EXECUTIVES

The American Association of Senior ExecutivesTM (AASE) has been assisting senior executives with their careers since

1999. It has been instrumental in providing resources, contacts and workshops for senior executives who recognize that

in the 21st century, developing and improving one's career doesn't stop once employed. Networking accounts for 70%

of the new positions executives locate. Those who maintain and grow their networks locate new positions 50% faster

than those who must rebuild them once they are in a search mode.

The semi-monthly AASE meetings provide executives with an environment that fosters networking, speakers who

enhance leadership skills, and access to contacts and resources regardless of where they are in their career's life cycle.

The AASE is sponsored and funded by a select group of companies that provide a variety of professional services and

networking contacts for its members. The association encourages all members to contact these sponsors for information

Page 9: Los Angeles and Orange County IT Executive Job Transition Links And Resources

LA and OC - IT Executive Job Transition Links and Resources

© 2014 Bruce McCullough Page 9

on how their services can assist them to advance their careers. In addition, AASE encourages members to return the

effort and consider the sponsors' services as their needs arise.

Membership in the AASE requires sponsorship, meeting the requirements outlined in the "Becoming a Member"

section, and approval by the membership committee.

TOASTMASTERS

From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to

become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The

nonprofit organization now has nearly 250,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in 106 countries, offering a proven –

and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.

Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two.

Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu

one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.

There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what

was done right and what could be improved.
