Debbie Wilkes had 50 cannabis plants growing in her attic. Wolverhampton 27 September 2012
“I didn’t have a good childhood. My mom was diagnosed with cancer when I was eight and died when I was 12. My father wasn’t very nice. I finished school, married a soldier, and went to Germany. It was fabulous. The only thing wrong was my husband. I married the wrong person. He went through the Gulf war, and it makes people angry. He beat me up. My dad did too. I’ve been brought up believing that being hit is right.

Yasin Ali Mohammed was carrying a bag with 14 kgs of heroin and a Harry Potter book to read on the train when he was arrested here at Dudley. 11 October 2012
It was a big operation: 26 others were arrested simultaneously. Yasin decided to confess. ”If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. And if you’re gonna do the crime, work out the consequences.” It was his third arrest. He’d been dealing for decades, had a seven gram-a-day habit himself.

Steve Tracey at the church he desecrated after the death of his nine day-old son. Webnesbury. 24 September 2012
“I’ve got a list of convictions as long as my arms, but there’s some things I never got caught for.” Vandalising the church was one of them. Stacey did it soon after Dale, his nine day old son died. He was spending nights at the cemetery, sleeping on Dale’s grave, bereft, drunk, drugged.
