What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Time Inc UK distributes NME. NME is a similar style genre to my magazine, therefore Time Inc UK would be a good distributor for my product. However, would they want two magazines of a similar style? This is why in my magazine I decided to include snippets of other genres such as pop, rock and maybe a little bit of chart. My magazine is also targeted at a slightly younger audience than NME, therefore there wouldn’t be as much competition between which magazine consumers chose. By doing this I am offering an alternative, therefore Time Inc UK may be willing to distribute my magazine.

BAUER distributes magazine such as mojo, Q and Kerrang! Although Kerrang! is a lot more rock based than my magazine, Q and Mojo offer quite a similar genre/style. However, like NME they are targeted at a slightly older audience, therefore they don’t have a music magazine for teenagers, so this may be a gap that my magazine could fill. For this reason BAUER may be a good media institution to distribute my magazine, however, they already distribute magazines very similar.

Future plc is a media company. In 2006, it was the ranked the sixth-largest media corporation in the United Kingdom. It publishes more than 30 magazines in fields such as video games, technology, films, photography, and sport.Future plc publishes magazine Metal Hammer and Classic rock. Although my music magazine features some areas of ‘heavy’ rock, it mostly features the genre indie/rock. This is why I think future plc would be the best institution to distribute my media product. They have a gap that my magazine can fill, providing them with a new genre magazine and a new audience. It would be more likely for future plc to provide my magazine that Time Inc UK and BEAUR as they already have a magazine of a similar genre.
