Vaccination against PCV2 - Why?
Farm performance before vaccination
No visible reproductive disorders Farrowing Rate >90% ADWG in growers – 0.566 kg ADWG in fatteners – 0.983 kg
Stoykov et al. (2011), APVS, Pattaya, Thailand
Vaccination against PCV2 - Why?
Farm performance before vaccination
Increased % ”lightweight” pigs, especially in fattening period Mortality rate - slight increase in fatteners (2%) Single cases of PDNS
Vaccination against PCV2 - Why?
Farm performance before vaccination
Necropsy – stomach ulcers
Performance lower than top DanBred farms
Positive PCV2 serology

Same genetic
Same feed
Same vaccination program (except CIRCOVAC)
Same biosecurity … but the farm is live organism…
CIRCOVAC - Piglet MASS vaccination - PROTOCOL
All pigs at age 29-100 days

After good piglet results – sow vaccination – WHY?
A lot of confirmations of influence of PCV2 on
reproduction
• Very good
farrowing rate…
…but opportunity to reach better results in number of born/weaned piglets
After good piglet results – sow vaccination – WHY?
CIRCOVAC – Reproduction herd MASS vaccination - PROTOCOL
Sows, gilts, boars
Start – end of July 2009 Dose – 2 ml, IM, 2 injections, 3 weeks apart One further injection at least 2 weeks before farrowing *in mass vaccination some animals received 1 injection, another - 2 and other -3
CIRCOVAC – Sow REGULAR vaccination - PROTOCOL
One injection at each gestation at least 2 weeks before farrowing Dose – 2 ml, IM
CIRCOVAC – Gilts REGULAR vaccination - PROTOCOL
Primary vaccination:
Dose – 2 ml, IM, 2 injections, 3 weeks apart, second injection at least 2 weeks before mating Booster: One injection at least 2 weeks before farrowing

Piglets Sow + Piglets Regular Sow + Piglets
CONCLUSION In farm “Brashlen” CIRCOVAC:
increases the reproductive
performances – number of live born piglets + 3.1 and + 1 weaned pig/litter
increases the kg produced by sow
CONCLUSION
In farm “Brashlen” CIRCOVAC :
improves the pig growth from birth to slaughter + 41 g ; + 77 g reduces the duration to 100 kg – 5,3 days helps for homogenous pig batches restore mortality rate prevent from appearance of stomach ulcers
CONCLUSION
CIRCOVAC helps the farm “Brashlen” to have a good profit at the difficult time with a lots of crisis…and welfare requirements…
CIRCOVAC regular sow + piglet vaccination is an investment in that farm with 2700 sows and a lots of piglets…
CONCLUSION
…but ROI are justified already
more than 3 years and prove
definitely that the sow +
piglet vaccination gives the
best performance in farrow-
to-finish farm.
THANK YOU !
