Scantrans Recommends –

• Meets all structural requirements

• Print Quality meets US/European standards & need

• Important as the solid colours (Black & Blue) and higher quality board

improves colour consistency

• Avoid lamination as plastic is not preferred in the EuroZone

SCANTRANS| Slide - 19 9 Feb 2014

CASE STUDY #1

Client

• The Automotive Aftermarket division of Bosch

manufacturing in India for domestic / export.

• Product category – Brake Pads

Brief

• Low volume / high SKU mix

• Improve on the carton strength/structure

Value Engineering

• Modified to Pizza box style for heavy brake pads

• Revised material specs to increase carton

strength

Benefits

• Pizza box style ensures that brake pads will not

accidentally drop out

• Rationalized SKU from 14 to 5

• Better grade kraft paper leading to better

strength, print quality

• Higher stack height possible due to higher

compression strength

CASE STUDY #2

Client

• Federal Mogul Automotive aftermarket division

manufacturing in India for domestic market

• Product category – Pistons

Brief

• Rigid box taking up lot of storage space

• 5 Ply box still not structurally strong

Value Engineering

• Converted from 5 Ply to 3 Ply

• Created a collapsible design

Benefits

• Structurally 3 ply box is stronger than earlier 5 ply

rigid box

• Reduced space for inventory storage prior to

assembly of box

CASE STUDY #3

Client

• Indian subsidiary Danblock Brakes India of MAT

Holdings Inc., USA manufacturer with 100% EOU

• Product category – Brake Pads

Brief

• Launch of new premium brand with premium look

• Eliminate leaflet with back side printing on box

Value Engineering

• Converted from existing litho-laminate box to

back-to-back board pasting carton

• High end FBB board

Benefits

• Structurally stronger box with a more compact and

premium look compared to narrow flute corrugated

box

• Eliminated the leaflet with printing on back side of

the board, which would have been extremely

challenging on Kraft paper

• No significant increase in cost

CASE STUDY #4

Client

• Home appliances division of Panasonic for

Domestic/Export

• Product category – Mixer Grinders

Brief

• Cost optimization

• Increase structural strength

Value Engineering

• Converted from existing 2 joint box to single joint

box using VLF infrastructure

Benefits

• Structurally stronger box with higher compression

strength due to single joint box

• Also resulted in faster turnaround times due to in-

process efficiencies

• Leading to reduction in cost

CASE STUDY #5

Client

• The Automotive aftermarket division of Tenneco

manufacturing in India for domestic / export.

• Product category – Car Suspension Assembly

Brief

• Prevent damage of packaging/product in transit

• Improve efficiency while packing product at factory

Value Engineering

• Converted from 5 Ply to 3 Ply with FBB Board

• Introduced auto-lock bottom

• Put in locking mechanism to hold product in place

Benefits

• Better grade top sheet leading to better print quality

and higher strength than earlier 5 ply carton

• Immobilizing the product prevented the damage to

product/packaging while in transit. Also eliminated

secondary insert being used earlier.

• Improved efficiency due to faster carton assembly

on the shop floor and elimination of sticky tape to

seal box
