No speed restrictions
Concrete blocks holding the painted bamboo delineators
Inconsistent line marking

Long term road works. Traffic passes through the work site, except at the end where

Stop sign not correct. Worker sign should NOT be displayed as there are no workers.
Should speed limit be 20 or 40km/h? Must be a regulatory sign

Cones aid delineation. Edge line would help also

Not a regulatory sign - do we want 20 or 40km/h

Are we happy with 15km/h for the side track? This sign needs washing.

This sign is OK but is too late – it needs to be before the side track.
No information of going from sealed to unsealed surface (a rough muddy surface).
Too close to the work site. Is 15 km/h reasonable?
No signs mention a side track. For a long term work site, should this track be sealed?
The side track is muddy and slippery. No delineation. Night time?
Poor sight distance to the access road. Pedestrians need assistance to cross.

When I looked at this photo I saw a family travelling with their little girl. She has her Mickey Mouse bag. She could be an Indonesian girl or an Australian girl – and she deserves protection. She is at risk here! We must do better in road works

Large water pipe was to be placed under a rural highway
Approx 8,000vpd, 100km/h speed limit
A side track was decided
Farm land was purchased – to be sold back to the farmer later
Careful planning went into the entire task.
I audited the work – twice!
The side track was to last for less than one week (in fact it lasted 4 days)
Cost $50,000AUD
Existing highway
Side track
Hazardous pole
Hazardous roadside
Four days$500,000
Prevention is better than cure
Matthew filmed the work
This example is not to show that all road works in Australia are great and wonderful.
Nor is it to expect Indonesia to spend $500,000 at each large road work site.
But it does stress:- work sites are important
- careful planning.
- attention to safety
- prevention rather than cure
When the work was ended, the asphalt was recycled and reused. The land was sold back to the farmer.
Roadside hazards. Fabricate away from road, lift into place immediately.
