Hello 2014 First day back in the office? 5-things to do before you click that mouse First day back? It’s easy to fall back into the old routine – and for some it’s no doubt already too late - but if you’ve yet to click that devilish mouse for the first time on arrival into the office in 2014 then here are 5-things you could be doing to make best use of the next year of your business life. 1. Set YOUR priorities Which activities from that long to-do list of yours will MOST improve YOUR outlook? Did you know that most successful people share a common trait of thinking about their day before starting their day? If it works for them it could work for you. 2. Cull trivial tasks Spending too much time on trivial tasks? It’s easy to dislodge work-time with large numbers of ‘small tasks’ that mount up to lots of lost hours from your day. Work out what trivial activities cost you time and see what you can do to trim them. 3. Reach out to aging connections Amazing things come from touching base with contacts you’ve not spoken to in a while. Find a reason to connect with your business contacts – particularly those where dialogue dropped in 2013. 4. Set out your day plan It’s great to have a day plan – and there are lots of ways to do it. You could commit yourself to starting every day by filling in a 3-box must-do priorities form, or you could break down your day into work-blocks to avoid any task from spilling over from minutes into hours (condition yourself to get a job done within a time-slot). 5. Set a bit hairy audacious goal for yourself (go on, be brave) Fortune favors those blind to practical constraints;-) Why not set the bar on your own ambitions by setting yourself a compelling goal for the first 3-months of 2014 – and make it happen!

Hello 2014

First day back in the office? 5-things to do before you click that mouse

First day back? It’s easy to fall back into the old routine – and for some it’s no doubt

already too late - but if you’ve yet to click that devilish mouse for the first time on

arrival into the office in 2014 then here are 5-things you could be doing to make best

use of the next year of your business life.

1. Set YOUR priorities Which activities from that long to-do list of yours will MOST improve YOUR outlook?

Did you know that most successful people share a common trait of thinking about

their day before starting their day? If it works for them it could work for you.

2. Cull trivial tasks Spending too much time on trivial tasks? It’s easy to dislodge work-time with large

numbers of ‘small tasks’ that mount up to lots of lost hours from your day. Work out

what trivial activities cost you time and see what you can do to trim them.

3. Reach out to aging connections Amazing things come from touching base with contacts you’ve not spoken to in a

while. Find a reason to connect with your business contacts – particularly those

where dialogue dropped in 2013.

4. Set out your day plan It’s great to have a day plan – and there are lots of ways to do it. You could commit

yourself to starting every day by filling in a 3-box must-do priorities form, or you

could break down your day into work-blocks to avoid any task from spilling over from

minutes into hours (condition yourself to get a job done within a time-slot).

5. Set a bit hairy audacious goal for yourself (go on, be brave) Fortune favors those blind to practical constraints;-) Why not set the bar on your

own ambitions by setting yourself a compelling goal for the first 3-months of 2014 –

and make it happen!
