DESCRIPTION

The future of Africa – Mega trends, transformations and opportunities. The future of Africa is bright and is maybe best described as a transformation "from poverty to prosperity". Estimates say: "Africa is expected to grow exponentially till 2050 and achieve a GNP greater than the US and Europe combined”. A growing middle class, deeper mobile penetration, lower corruption and the fact that more people will live longer are some of the mega trends. The sharing economy and online connectivity are some of the drivers, and from a business perspective they represent the biggest opportunities. The African people are entrepreneurial, ingenious and community-oriented in nature, which make them perfectly suited for navigating in the new open, collaborative market economy. The question is if businesses in the West can follow. Key will be to activate, engage, co-create and "listen louder".

The global 'sharing economy' taps into thessence of African culture

Page 11: Africa rising nov 2014

We live in a time of connectivity, where prosperity and well-being are determined by access – to people, information,

learning, tools, health care,The mobile market will continue to grow exponentially in the

years to come, bringing most of the African population online (primarily via the mobile phone)

from ownership to access

and that each country has it’s own “DNA”. Because to activate, engage and co-create is a

matter of “listening louder”!

Henri is a phenomenal entrepreneur and innovator. Four years ago, he identified a need. He saw that in Africa, mobile phone penetration rates were skyrocketing, but that basic electricity infrastructure was not.

There were now millions of people with mobile phones, but nowhere to charge them. !

Since then, he founded African Renewable Energy Distributor (a-r-e-d.com) and developed a high-tech solar powered mobile kiosk that can charge all kinds of small electronic devices. These kiosks use

smart-grid technology so that they are the most efficient, easiest to maintain, and highest quality of all of the charging kiosks. Henri also uses a franchise business model, so that with each new kiosk he actually

creates another micro-entrepreneur.

Sum-up & future advice!

1. Take part in the new (story of) Africa and find ways to embrace the positive megatrends

2. Utilize the open, collaborative, sharing economy 3. “Listen louder” and help or activate the Africans so

that they can drive innovation and progress themselves
