Are You Ready to Move into the Future of E-Commerce
One of the most interesting new twists to e-
commerce that has occurred in the last few
years is that of personalised shopping.
If you happen to think that this is business
model is strictly a fad or only for the very
wealthy, you may be surprised. But, there
are other new niches that are starting to get
traction as well.
Wesley Yuhn in Tampa and head of Media
Oasis, a company specializing in marketing
of E-commerce pays attention to the trends
that are on the horizon. These are some that he sees that are not yet overcrowded but he expects
will be successful over the next few years.
If you are trying to find your niche in the market, these are some of the trends that are Mr. Yuhn
and other experts advise considering.
Customized Over the Counter Meds – Whether you are in the Compound Pain Relief
field or trying to place Diabetic Prescription Vitamin Supplements, using a custom
formula made by a legal and registered compound pharmacy in the U.S. is one of the big
interests in America today.
Let Customers Design Their Own – This started with Nike Shoes last year when they
let customers design their own tennis shoes choosing the colors, designs and height of the
shoe that they preferred. Some of the most interesting elements were the height of the
side of the shoe instead of making a one cut-line for any given style. Many of their
customers chose to increase the height on the traditional basketball style shoe for reasons
of comfort and protection, according to Nike.
Personalized Communications – This is not limited to just emails but to every facet of
your e-commerce experience. Amazon is touching on this type of personalized
communication by sending you emails about items that you have already searched for in
the past and when you go to the sight, if you have frequently chosen items that were red
in color, they will show you red items in your current search query first. It is a form of a
virtual personal shopper to help save you time.
3D Printing and Innovative Items –3D printing technology is still very new and the
uses are barely being explored as of yet. But, suppose that you could go to into a shop,
see a set of bowls that you happen to like and could purchase the item as a “to-be-printed-
on-your-3D-printer” version. You could choose or design your own color, pattern, size
and buy it right now. You could avoid paying shipping and handling because it doesn’t
require shipping. Could this be done with fabric as well to print out a garment? Maybe.
The one thing we know it doesn’t work for is guns – they fall apart and explode – it’s
been tried.
360 Degree View – One store in New York City is already presenting their boutique
items in this viewed experience. Instead of just looking at a photo of an item, you
actually wander around the “physical store” and can look through items that are actually
there. In addition, you can interact with voice technology with the designers and models
and ask them to try items on that you are interested in seeing. This is another trend that is
just at the beginning but worth exploring.
For those just entering the workplace world as entrepreneurs, these are trends and niches to
consider combining with your own brand of e-commerce.
