Background Located in one of the most famous touristic areas of Portugal, the Casino Fi-gueira da Foz offers a unique product in central Portugal. Having its origins back in the XIX century, the Casino is a sign of the development and progress of the city at the time. With its noble room, the Salão Nobre (Salão Cafée), a restaurant at the basement and other facilities, one can have access to Casino games, meetings and conference rooms as well as several shows. The Casino Figueira undeniably is one of the most important attractions in central Portugal, still preserving the charisma of the beginning of the century.

Risky Challenges While facing a structure of the XIX century, our task was both a risk and a chal-lenge: to convert the existing decorative lighting to LED lighting. As a starting point, we had 3500 35W halogen lamps, with a glass bulb painted with the intended colour, making red, green, yellow and blue solutions. The generated heat by the lighting system was massive, to the point of dramatically increasing the amount of expenses with air-conditioning and maintenance. On the one hand, we had the opportunity to clearly reduce the Casino’s energy bill, but on the other hand, we had the commitment not to damage the existing structure and lighting configuration.

Problems detected • Disproportionate costs with energy; • Low durability of the materials: constant increasing of expenses with maintenance; • High heat generated by the lighting system; • Pollution: lower durability of halogen bulbs and its non-environmental friendly

characteristics;

Our Solution: HALOLED • Multiple colours available; • Environmental benefits: no mercury or damaging materials associ-

ated; • Short time investment payback: Energy savings granted with low

maintenance costs.

1. Efficient decorative lighting

2. Innovative visual effects – virtually no heat generated

3. Softer light for cozy atmospheres

4. Colour is finally made possible
