About the Project:

Removal of asbestos contamination from within the ceiling voids at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court.

The asbestos contamination within the ceiling void’s on ground and third floors at Highbury Magistrates Court emanates from previous asbestos removal work undertaken to a poor standard.

Working out of hours over thirteen phases, our remit was to remove the existing ceilings and decontaminate the ceiling voids prior to a ceiling replacement programme being completed by the Main Contractor.

Our work entailed disconnecting and removing various mechanical and electrical installations and forming our enclosures around office furniture and equipment.

Project Challenges:

The works were completed within a demandingprogramme of 7 weeks working 12 hour shifts, 7days per week.

The ground and first floors were divided into 13 work areas. Each area was turned into a working enclosure by covering all surfaces (except the ceilings) with polythene sheeting.

Office furniture, IT equipment, files and personal property remained within the work areas and were also covered with sheeting. Extreme care had to be taken when working around the stored contents, so as not to cause damage.

Whilst most services had been isolated within the ceiling voids, our operatives had to ensure that no services were damaged as all would be re-used upon completion.

Following the removal of the asbestos and testing of the enclosure, all exposed surfaces were painted with an elastomeric sealant.
