Digipack analysis no.1 - Jade Dowse

This digipack uses colour to make parts stand out, as the it is in black and white apart from the flowers, this makes them eye catching and easy to recognise. The front cover uses scrapped paper as the back ground and peace symbols drawn on, but it does not look the best photo shop as the inside of the symbol is plain white and does not show the background through. The front cover has the brand identity with the artists name and album name are clear and bold, this is important for band recognition. The font of the text on the front cover are very appropriate to the genre and have a good feel to the album. The front cover is simple and I think that it is effective to the album and creates a good first impression.

The back cover of the album uses a border and carries on the theme of flowers that are featured on the front. It is in black and white again apart from the flowers which creates a good juxtaposition to

the theme. The track list are written in a font that is appropriate to the genre and are well placed in the centre of the back cover. The spot light that is placed on them is very effective to catching your attention and hake the back come together. There is all the legal information that is needed to make look professional and I well placed at the bottom, but still placed in the border. The barcode is also placed inside the border and in in the centre, but you do not notice it as it is hidden in plain sight. I feel that the main focus of this back cover is the border that surrounds the back. Its bold use of moustache like lines that cover the border. This is accompanied by the flowers which are the only thing in colour.

The inside front cover is very simple and I do not believe that it fits very well with the genre as it is a high resolution picture of the sun through some clouds and does not fit with the rest of the album as the rest of the album has a rustic feel and is drawn mostly. But it does continue the theme of black and white.

Disc side inside cover does have the peace sight found at the front cover and is the size of the disc. But this does not follow the black and white theme as the titles are in orange which breaks the theme of the album. The signature on the disc is a very good idea and do relate to the genre.

The spine is a generic spine with the album name and the artist name in the same font as the rest of the album. But there is a lack of emblem and record label.

In conclusion the album only has a few minor problems and follow a good them that make it look very iconic and has a good feel. But the main thing that I would improve is the lack of peace sign on the spine and the lack of record label all over.

Digipack analysis no.2 MACRAE Billy

This digipack album has a very clear theme to it with the synthetic science fiction look, the overall look of this album is very good and simple in places and has a very strong theme of blue.

The front cover is simple and has one of the character of the video on the front but this does not have enough brand identity as there is not band or artists seen, but this could be okay with this sort of genre as a lot of bands do not advertise their faces on their albums. The font of the titles are in a good place and have a very fitting font. The use of black at the start is also good.

The back cover has the synthetic face of the person on the front. The track list is a bit hard to read and the legal information is nearly impossible to read. The titles are located in the centre of the album and are (but the wrong colour) fitting to the genre and works well in the centre. The emblem is also there but for some reason is not featured on the front cover, but the emblem does look very good. The bare code is found at the bottom right of the back cover of the album.

The inside front cover is just a photo of the character on the front of the album but with a pixelled face so the face is not properly seen giving enigma To the artists.

The inside disc side has a blue background and a blue sparkled disc cover, this follows the theme throughout the album but it is a bit plane compared to the back and does not much to do with the video as it is fibre optics that are on the disc which are not featured in the video or name at all, but they do give a good effect. The simple use of colours and pictures brings out the creativeness of the artist and there distanced style.

In conclusion this piece used simplicity to create a full and rich perspective on the style that is science fiction and there production of synthetic.

This is a distanced use of colour as the outside is purple and the inside is black, purple and black work very well together and in this album that is true. The inside and the outside at first glance don’t have anything to do with each other. The emblem is different and I don’t know the significance of the three triangle and there meanings but this might become clearer towards the end.

The front cover consists of an emblem, the album name at the top and the artists name at the bottom. This is it apart from the background which is a purple blue colour. The triangle could mean a 3 person band and each of the triangles representing a different artists. It is a very simple design.

The back cover also has the brand recognition with the three triangles at the bottom along with the legal information and the barcode, the recording studio logo and more legal information. The track list is very spaced out and this first the genre and theme of the album.

The inside front cover is a picture of a fire coming out of a pipe or a long stick on fire, but I feel it does not fit with the genre and juxtaposes the cover and the back cover. There is some more legal information followed with the recording studio logo. The black and orange work well together but I don’t find any relevance to the genre with this picture.

The inside disc side just has a sparkler behind the disc, I feel that this part was just thrown into the album to get it finished, it looks a bit rushed.

In conclusion the front cover and back cover have the brand recognition but for some reason the back cover logo is distorted and out of shape, this could have been changed very easily. The spine also has the brand recognition and the logo and the band and album name, these are all conventions of digipacks. In general the album is simple and a feel a bit rushed but overall it has a good effect.

Adverts

This is the first of the adverts and this is one that keeps the consistence from the album. The background is the same keeping the level of remember ability to the advert. This is enforced by the incorporation of the album cover on the advert. The colours are the same with the black and white and hint of orange. Titles are little dull and simple, but they are the same as the ones on the also points for consistency there. The convention of the recording artist is on there with the Virgin Recordings, this in in a small area at the bottom right of the poster. There is artist promotion with the face of the artist on the advert.

Page 6: Digipack analysis no1 improved

The next album cover is again consistent with the album and even incorporates the album onto the advert. The use of blue flying orb thing is very effective. There is the date of June the 12, this is not to convention as the date is usually one of the biggest things there is a certain level of artist promotion, and this means that the blue orb is the recognition to the audience. The poster is reasonable blank and there is not much more to it apart from wants already on the album.

Page 7: Digipack analysis no1 improved

This is the last poster, this is similar to the album continuing the consistence across all ancillaries. There is a rating of the album on the poster which is good for the audience. The date is on the front but again like the others is not the biggest thing on the poster going against convention. There are some website at the bottom and a Facebook link, this is good for promotion of the album. The top titles aren’t very centred making it look a bit bad, but this is really the only problem.
