Instructions for UsingGroup Study Room Technology

Using the Wall Monitor with the DVD/VHS player

1. Turn on wall monitor using the U-shaped switch on the lower right corner.

2. Change (or Verify) that the monitor is set to receive input from the player.a. Press the input button on the right side of the monitor.b. Use the up/down volume arrow to select AV1 input.c. Press the Enter button.

3. Turn on the DVD/VHS player using the front panel or remote control.

a. The power button is the one with this symbol

4. Select the media type (DVD or Video) you need to play using the front panel or remote control.

5. Press the eject button on the front panel or remote control to open the disc/tape tray, insert your media, and press the eject button again to seat the media.

6. Use the player/remote control to view the media.

7. Eject the DVD disc or VHS tape and turn off the monitor and the DVD/VHS player when you are finished using them.

Using the Wall Monitor with a Laptop Computer

1. Turn on the LG wall monitor using the U-shaped switch on the lower right corner.

2. Change (or Verify) that the LG monitor is set to receive input from the computer.

a. Press the input button on the right side of the monitor.b. Use the up/down volume arrow to select RGB-PC input.c. Press the Enter button.

3. Connect your laptop to the LG monitor.a. Use a standard 15-pin VGA cable (available from the circulation desk).b. Plug the cable into the video output connector on your computer.c. Plug the other end of the cable into the same kind of jack on the wall of

the study room.

4. Turn on your computer and select the option to send video output to the external monitor.

a. This function is specific to a particular manufacturer’s laptop. Generally

you will need to press and hold the and then a function key that has a symbol representing two computer screens. Common function keys usually used for this are F8, F7, and F4. This function key combination usually toggles between the built-in monitor, the external monitor, and sometimes both together.

5. If the LG monitor indicates “Input invalid,” you need to set the video display on your computer to the correct resolution. It is probably set too high for the wall monitor.

a. Windows XPi. Right click on the background on your desktop.ii. Select properties.iii. Note your current resolution so you can reset it when you are

done.iv. Move the slider bar to select 1024x768.v. Click Apply.vi. If the change causes no problems with your system, click OK to

keep the change.b. Windows Vista

i. Right click on the background on your desktop.ii. Select Graphics Properties.iii. Select Display Settings.iv. Note your current resolution so you can reset it when you are

done.v. Set screen resolution to 1024x768.vi. Click Apply. vii. If the change causes no problems with your system, click OK to

keep the change.c. Macintosh

6. Turn the LG monitor off when you are finished using it.
