How Continuing Education Can Positively Affect Your Professional Life

It is important to continue your education regardless of the current status of the economy in

order to improve your resume and progress in your career. It is beneficial for your professional

life to stay up to date with newer skills, technologies and developments that are suitable for your

field of work since industries are always shifting and new ideas are constantly being introduced.

Companies are constantly looking to hire individuals who are capable of taking on a lot of

responsibilities and who have a good educational background. It is always seen a bonus when

professionals have a good understanding of their field and this is clearly reflected through

continued learning efforts. Some jobs that typically required continuing education include

engineers, agents, nurses, pharmacists and accountants.

Aside from being a requirement in some cases, continuing education is bound to reap the

benefits when it comes to one’s career. It gives the learner confidence in their abilities and

opens more doors in terms of professional development. Since many people are vying for the

same job, it is best to give yourself the advantage by learning the appropriate and current

information and skills relating to your work.

Argosy University’s Program Chair, Dr. Marianne Greenfield, said “Continuing education

generally refers to any type of post-secondary education for the purpose of keeping current with

changes in a particular field of study or for preparation to obtain a certification. Some

professionals require that you earn continuing education credits in order to maintain a license.

The goal of continuing education is to offer adults who already possess a college or university

degree further opportunity for learning without having to enroll in a degree program.”

Options for accreditation include certificates, diplomas and degree completion courses.

Continuing education programs can be participated in at local universities, centers, colleges and

even in the office. Nowadays, many of those looking to boost their careers, choose to pursue

continuing education online because of the economical cost and convenience.

Dr. Melvin L.Howard, Ph.D., the Criminal Justice Program Director at South University in

Columbia, states, “Non-traditional higher and continuing education programs are available now

to a greater degree than ever. E-learning (Blackboard and WebEx) is becoming more

widespread, along with other technology-based, interactive instruction, and electronic

conferencing.”

It used to be more troublesome to participate in continuing education but these days that

argument in irrelevant. There are many options for online continuing education classes that are

either entirely online or an actual location as well. This makes it easier for those who have work

or family commitments to successfully continue education.

With so many options for continuing education available, it is important to find one that best

suits your needs. Keep in mind that there are a number of institutions that have yet to find a way

to accredit their courses so make sure you enroll in one that is accredited. Choosing the right a

combination of learning options and courses to enroll in provides a greater impact your
