What types of magazine and target audience has IPC been

associated with over the years?IPC seem to be associated with many indented audiences, the company does this through its gender specific magazines such as NOW for women and NUTS for men, also IPC media has an age variation within its magazine types. Although they do not aim towards a younger market specifically, they publish one magazine TEEN NOW which contains 92 pages packed with teen gossip.

IPC aim to please three target audiences in which these are; Men, Mass Market Women and Upmarket Women

IPC have three publishing divisions – IPC Connect, IPC Inspire and IPC Southbank.

IPC Connect is famous for its mass market women's division, its magazines include Now, Chat and Women.

Why might IPC be an appropriate publisher for a

new music magazine? This publisher would be appropriate for a new music magazine, because it is the company that publishes NME (The New Musical Express) which is a popular magazine in the UK that has been published weekly since march 1952. Also IPC publish the magazine UNCUT which is a monthly publication based in London and focuses on music but also includes films and book articles.

IPC as a company have a lot of knowledge and experience of what makes a good magazine, they know what is missing in its market and are able to apply their expertise to a new type of magazine.

IPC Media has been around for many years and is a well known, reliable company that has published different genres of magazine.

This company may be more open to the publication of a different type of music magazine because its other music magazines focus on Rock and Indie music genre.

What sorts of genres of music/types of magazines are

IPC likely to publish? The IPC is likely to publish a music magazine based around a Rock/Indie genre, as they have a lot of experience working with this specific genre as they have published NME for many years now. This means that the company have already built a fan base for this particular music genre and the IPC will know how to portray its content in a way that makes its target audience want to buy the magazine.

Also the IPC publish many women's magazines and only two music magazines, this means their know-how is prioritised to the publication of women's mags.

Although the IPC have a lot of knowledge when it comes to the publication of Rock/Indie music magazines, the company may be willing to publish a different genre of music magazine, this would therefore create a new niche market. This genre could be based around chart music, as many people have a genuine like for typical chart music, this means that the target audience for the new magazine would be higher and reach numerous amounts of people instead of one specific group. Therefore this would mean more profit and many copies would be sold.

Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be

appropriate?Bauer reaches over nineteen million UK adults a week, Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group, Europe's largest privately owned publishing group. The group is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 different countries as well as online, TV and radio stations.

As a company Bauer produce more music magazines than IPC Media this means they have more understanding to working with different genres of music as well as having the knowledge to know what content to include in the magazines to reach to their intended audiences.

Bauer also publish their magazines at a lower price than IPC meaning its magazines are more affordable to their target audiences.
