Executive Training Programme (ETP)
in Japan and Korea Cycle 2014-2015
What is ETP?
• ETP is an EU-funded programme which supports EU companies
& their managers willing to develop their career and business
activities in the Japanese & Korean markets
• ETP is designed to help EU companies to understand the
specifics of Japan and Korea's economies, language and
business cultures to succeed in these markets
• ETP offers a proven formula of a 1 year action learning
programme including TRAINING at top academic partners, an
INTERNSHIP and a SCHOLARSHIP
• ETP has been in operation in Japan for 34 years, in Korea – for
11 years
Why ETP?

• To date, more than 1000 European
managers from over 20 different sectors
have completed the programme
• 65% of ETP alumni become top executives
within their companies
• ETP sponsor companies’ related turnover
in Japan and Korea increases two fold

Why Japan & South Korea ?
• Japan is EU's 7th largest trading partner globally and the EU’s
2nd biggest trading partner in Asia
• Successful conclusion of the ambitious EU-Japan trade deal
could deliver a potential 32.7% increase in EU exports to
Japan
• South Korea is the EU's 10th largest trade partner
• The EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement entered into force in July
2011
• EU exports have grown strongly giving the EU a trade surplus
with Korea for the first time in 15 years
• ETP strengthens the presence of EU managers and companies
in Korea and Japan as well as the cultural and business links
between these countries and the EU
ETP starts with 3 WEEKS TRAINING IN EUROPE at
School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London
This is followed by 42 WEEKS IN JAPAN OR KOREA for training at Waseda University in Tokyo or Yonsei
University in Seoul, followed by an internship in a local
company
ETP = 1 YEAR PROGRAMME WITH TRAINING + INTERNSHIP
How does ETP work?

• Acquisition of unique and valuable competencies
through action learning
• Unique opportunity to gain an extensive network of
business contacts and do an internship in a local
company
• Lasting business impact through development of
participants’ Business Plans
• EC funds the whole training course and provides a
scholarship of €26,400 for Japan and €24,000 for
Korea meaning a highly reduced investment vs. what it
would take for similar results without EU support
Benefits of participation
Who can apply?
Minimum requirements
For an interested EU executive/manager
• Be a citizen of one of the Member States
of the EU
• Be employed by a sponsoring company since at least 1 year
• Demonstrate an excellent command of English
• Have not previously participated in the ETP
• Either have (a) a university degree of B.A. level + 3 years of professional experience as an executive or (b) 2 years of higher education + 5 years of professional experience as an executive
For an interested EU company
• Either (a) have exports or investments in JP or
KR or (b) have plans to develop them there or
(c) provide support to EU companies in
developing exports or investments to JP or KR
• Be EU-based/owned, have the global
headquarters located in the EU, have a
European identity and produce goods or
services of EU origin
• Employ a min. of 5 people and have an annual
turnover ≥ € 500.000
• Be committed to contributing towards the living
expenses of the participant during ETP
• Be committed to maintaining the employment
link with the participant after ETP
