1. Stay Together Only conduct a formal employee survey when all managers in your division commit to doing so. A fundamental principle of employee satisfaction is consistency of management practices. Going it alone could be self-defeating.

Cover all aspects of the employee experience in your survey. Examples: total compensation, leadership, opportunity for advancement, more … Make the best use of your time and effort. Welcome honest feedback.

2. Dig Deep



3. Invest in Infrastructure Build a database to record and analyze survey data. Engage your Human Resources professional to coordinate the survey process. Do whatever it takes to preserve confidentiality, employee privacy and data integrity.



Go for 100% participation. Encourage all employees to complete the survey. You’ll be glad you did.

4. Garner Full Participation



5. Ensure Anonymity No names. Some demographic information about your employees will help you understand specific problem areas. Collect it for large teams where it’s easy for employees to blend in. For small teams, ask only for the employee’s division/department.

Keep employees informed about the status of the survey process. Let them know what to expect and when to expect it. Publish a summary of survey results.

6. Communicate



One more thing … … and this is important.



The worst mistake you could make …

… would be to hint at the prospect of workplace improvements and then not deliver

results.
