Targets / Objectives

• To reduce absolute Carbon Emissions due to energy use in buildings (including processes contained in buildings) by 17% by 2020 from 2012 baseline

• To control energy consumption - consumption may increase due to “activity”

• To manage cost - not a promise to reduce cost

7

Facilities Management

FM controls:

• Energy cost (procurement of energy is often in FM budget)

• Majority of energy consumption

• Most of savings opportunities

• Energy Audits

• Facilities managers need to be part of the Energy Management programme

• Outsourcing can bring conflict of interest – cheapest install vs. most efficient

Infrastructure Upgrades

Minor Works

• Standardised PERFORMANCE specifications

• Lighting, Split A/C systems, ASHP, Boilers

• Whole life costed….not cheapest installation

Capital Works

• PERFORMANCE specifications based on current best practice

• CIBSE Guidelines

• CHP, BMS and New Construction projects

• Whole life costed ….not cheapest initial cost

• Enhanced Capital Allowances (understand and claim)
