What is this opportunity all about - Situation in the UK Final Third

n  UK Government’s Broadband Strategy for Britain to have the best superfast broadband network in Europe by 2015.

n  Only 70% of the country will be served by normal market forces n  UK Government to provide £530M in this spending review.

£830M in total.

n  Initial funding given to 8 rural areas n  North Yorkshire n  Highlands and Islands n  Cumbria n  Hereford and Worcester n  Devon and Somerset n  Norfolk and Wiltshire

n  18+ more regions have been allocated funding n  BDUK in the process of establishing a standardised Broadband

Delivery Framework n  Networks are to be built

n  Independent of technology n  Must be open to all ISP’s large and small n  Must have a minimum universal service provision

n  Fujitsu ideally positioned to design build and operate wholesale OAN for the UK final 3rd

What is Fujitsu’s role in providing for the ‘Final Third’ n  Fujitsu is working to deliver a Wholesale open Access network in Areas that benefit from

match funding through BDUK, ERDF or other Public funding initiatives. n  Currently we are progressing through the ‘Competitive Dialogue’ procurement process with

proposals to n  The Welsh Assembly n  Cumbria n  North Yorkshire n  BDUK frame contract n  Individual council projects

n  First Contracts not expected to be awarded until 2012 with work commencing Q2 2012 n  Funding arrangements from European sources – fluid at the moment. n  Need to move quickly if we are to meet 2015 deadline in the final third. n  Still some challenges
