Guidelines for Using this Document.

1. This is a CV Sample, all characters and points are imagined. You are expected to

consciously adapt this guide to your person.

2. In some instances, you will see more than 3 bullet points under an experience, this is to

give you ideas on how to explain your own accomplishments in each of your roles in the

past. Ideally, points under a single experience should not be more than 3.

3. This Sample CV is more than 2 pages because of the tips between the lines and the need

to give you good examples. Ensure your CV does not exceed 2pages. (*There might be

exceptions in some industries), but to be on the safe side, stick with 2pages.

4. This Sample CV contains most sections that should be in a professional CV. But if you

can’t find a section relevant to you, please feel free to add yours. You should also remove

sections not relevant to you.

5. Remember to delete this guideline page after you are done adapting this sample.

General Guidelines for CVs

1. Bio-Data: Information like “Place of Birth”, “State of Origin” and “Nationality” are not

necessary unless specifically asked for, in the Job Advert.

2. The email, contact address and Phone numbers should be classified together. Emails must

be professional: for e.g Goodluckjonathan@gmail.com. Don’t use addresses like:

Gj4real007@gmail.com or luckyG@gmail.com, or coolgoodluck@gmail.com or

sexyGEJ4real2015@yahoo.com. You will come across as stale and unserious.

3. Use a Profile Statement instead of Objective Statement, and please never ever combine the

4. Your experiences should consist of what you accomplished on the role, in school or

volunteer positions. Accomplishments and not job descriptions. Make use of numbers

where you can and make your words and points conversational. You’ll see examples below.

5. Use Squared Bullets instead of circular ones or the other types. It is more professional and

aesthetically pleasing. Your bullets should align and be same throughout your CV.

6. Don’t write “Curriculum Vitae” or CV on the pages of your CV. It is tautology. Anyone

reading already know it is a CV.

7. Call it ‘Interests’ instead of ‘Hobbies’.

8. Skills should be listed in bullet format.

9. Add your references if you have. Ditch the “references available on request”
