Bonjour.My name is Ben Recher.

I am a new science teacher at TAPCo - 10X225 in the Bronx.

I am also of French origin, and I make every effort to keep my French accent.

I am a career evolver. For more than 20 years I have been teaching scientific concepts to individuals of all ages. However I did in a context different than a traditional school environment;I am professional scuba diving instructor.

I went from there

to here

I chose to become a teacher because I believe that I have a talent for providing instruction.I chose to become a science teacher because I love everything that is science.I chose to become a biology teacher because I have a passion for studying all sort of living organism.

I co-teach 1 period of high school biology and I teach 3 periods of 7th grade science.

I would like to make my classroom as hi-tech as possible and create a virtual world of science to allow my pupil to escape the Bronx for few minutes and learn about the living world around them.

However, my dream classroom will have to wait. I have a very small usable space in my classroom and I have little resources. My first school purchase was a projector. I have a non-functioning Smartboard which I use as a screen. I rely heavily on PowerPoint presentation to present my science material. I do not give hand out, because I believe that is a waste of paper. Instead I do demand that my students keep a scientific journal where they record what they learn in class.

I have a very small usable space in my classroom and I have little resources. My first school purchase was a projector. I have a non-functioning Smartboard which I use as a screen. I rely heavily on PowerPoint presentation to deliver my science material.

However, my dream classroom will have to wait.

I have no doubt that they all have the ability to learn. My job is to help them do so.

Regardless of the challenges, I have only one mission: that is to lead my pupils to success.

Although… I have to admit that I already need some quiet time underwater.
