Introduction

To become a certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of New York, an accountant must fulfill educational, experience, and testing requirements. A CPA must have earned an accredited bachelor's degree or higher with at least 24 semester hours in accounting.

Specifics of coursework breakdowns depend on the total number of hours completed, though candidates with more than 15 years of experience may have education requirements waived.
