The trailer includes aspects of action, suspense and horror; the director did this to make the trailer dynamic and entertaining to watch, further wanting to watch more of the film. The aspect of action is important to the marketing of the Descent, as it makes the trailer more action packed and hooks the additional audience, which are extreme sports enthusiasts, as they are interests in action. The aspect of the caving shown in the trailer also helps hook this audience. The suspense included in the trailer makes the audience wonder what’s going to happen next and wanting to watch more. Lastly, the horror included in the trailer hooks and entertains the secondary audience into watching the film, as they are horror movie fans. If the horror seems effective to the audience they will invest into watching the full movie. The billboard of the Descent was made for the purpose to hook the audience into wanting to watch the film. The poster reads ‘ face your deepest fear’, this is important in the marketing of the Descent as it immediately identifies to the audience that the film is going to be of the horror genre. This is used to market the movie towards the horror movie fans, the secondary audience. The billboard also has the cave system in the background; this shows that the cave is going to be a key setting in the movie. Although, the rock of the cave is morphed into a picture of the crawlers, therefore this identifies to the audience that the horror movie will have a monster included in it, so this shows that it is also a monster movie. the movie to aliens. The campaign of this billboard had to change after the tragic 07/07 bombings which included a bus being bombed with a billboard of the Descent displayed on it, this was changed to a more view friendly poster, which does not signify people being trapped underground as much. For people in order to view this they need to see a billboard, therefore it is free for people to view this marketing strategy.

Although, there only appears to be one character alive, which is Sarah. This is important as the cast formed in the formation of a skull, therefore this signifies that there is going to be horror and death included within the movie. Also, the idea of Sarah being the only person seeming to be alive and the only person with their face visible shows and signifies the theme of survival, also showing the survival aspect included in the film. This poster will mainly hook the secondary audience of the horror movie fans. This was the poster made after the changing of the original billboard, not showing and signifying the entrapment of people underground. For people in order to view this marketing strategy they need to go out and purchase a poster or view the poster in a public place, as well as the Internet.

The website of the Descent includes the trailer of the movie available to watch and the poster of the Descent. The poster is situated in the background of the website and there is an all black background colour around the poster. This is done to symbolise and represent the darkness of the cave. Also, to the left of the poster there is a link to the purchase page of the Descent DVD. This is done to further market the movie and to make it available for the audience to watch at home. The website will mainly hook the secondary audience of the horror movie enthusiasts, because it has mainly a horror them to it, as there is blood and a poster representing death featured upon it. Also, there is darkness, which is meant to add to the horror. For people in order to view the website they need to have Internet access, either use the Internet in a public place or purchase Internet for home access.
