INTRODUCTION

The nature of our project that we have chosen is crime and violence. We named it “THE SAW OF VIOLENCE”. These days there are lots of crime and violence happening from time to time around us, hence we want to increase the awareness of the people about this situation. Moreover, we also wanted to teach the people how to protect themselves when they face these dangerous incidence. In the event of this project, we have set up a booth and we have given out questionnaires for the people to answer. This is to make them know how well do they understand about crime and violence and how will they overcome it when they face it. Furthermore, those who have completed the questionnaires can stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes. It includes pepper-spray, whistle and others. All in all, we hope that we have given much knowledge and awareness about crime and violence and most important is how to overcome and protect ourselves from it.

Project Outcome

REPORT ON THE CLOSING OF THE BOOTH

Booth expo starts at 10.00 am Venue: Taylor’s University HallwayExpo ends at 3.00 pm After the activity is concluded, we were all ready to pack up all our items including decorations, posters, etc. There were also some leftover pamphlets, whistles and pens, that was not distributed, which in turn gave us the idea of giving them away to random students and lecturers passing by the hallway, including our neighboring booths. We also distributed the things to our group members as gifts in return for their hard work decorating, advertising, and preparing the booth. Some of the booths were still open with the students clearing the stock away, even though they have been running it for more than 5 hours. What surprised us was the number of people that were attracted to our booth. It could be because of the colorful appearance of the booth we have prepared or the interesting items that we displayed. There were countless number of students who stopped by our booth, especially during lunchtime, where all classes were most likely finished. Group after group of students and lecturers, even staff members from the student life center, dropped by as we provide them with interesting gifts and lucky draws to be won.

ConclusionGroup work is a very common feature in the universities all around the World. Our lecturer use group work to regularly help us to learn concepts and apply them to our academic activities. Students seem to respond better to group discussions and activities than working alone. By having group discussions, we tend to give opinions and suggestions to our group to complete our group assignment together. Through the making of proposal, everyone in the group knows what are we going to do with the project and everyone is given different tasks to complete. During the campaign day, we prepared some free gifts for everyone who helped us to complete our survey form for research purpose. The data will be analyzed after collecting all the responses. Pepper sprays and whistles are prepared as gift to raise the awareness of students to prevent them to expose themselves on dangerous situation, it can also help them to attract attention if they were in danger. We learned to communicate and ask for help from people we don’t know. Separation of tasks is also an important move for us to complete the project successfully. At last, this project actually provides us a platform to share knowledge and develop leadership, life skills and cultural understanding. Besides that, we also learned the skill of better control of financial, physical and human resources. We tried to control the budget of the making of poster, cost of printing for the survey forms, cost of gifts to be given to participants and much more. Capabilities for approaching global issues from various perspective and strong leadership qualities are developed through the project.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (TAN WEI ZHEN 0318560)

Through this project, the first and most important thing I’ve learnt is to communicate well with the team. Communication is an important aspect in order for us to get our group project done in an efficient manner. Besides, the organization of the project requires a good leadership in every members in order to organize the campaign well and smooth. Not forgot to mention that teamwork is important as well in order to avoid conflict. Furthermore, the events that had been carried out during the campaign reflect back on our network of connection with other friends in order to invite them for a visit.

Visit by friends

Through the breakdown of the projects, each few members would get a different topic and work to finish and this would create more leadership in an individual group. Last but not least, we learnt to concern more about other people and contribute more to the society by giving out the self-defense tools during the campaign as my group will be doing the anti-crime and violence campaign.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (LIM JIE QI 0318313)

I am Lim Jie Qi, a student who takes the subject “Leading to 21st century” in my semester 2 of Bachelor of Quantity Surveyor. There is a final project should be done in a group of 10 students conducting an activity on campus. After we settle down the grouping problems, we discuss and decide to choose “Crime & Violence” as the topic of our project. After choosing the topic, we separate the works so that every group member will do the tasks equally. A proposal is then completed. The proposal talks about the term of our topic and what we are going to do for the project. Then we plan for the campaign. Survey form will be given to students around the campus and data will be analyzed afterwards. A report about the project will be done after that. After doing this project together with my group mates, I learned the way to communicate and co-operate with others. When we were doing the project together, we split the tasks, helping each other and also giving different opinions to get the best result. Besides that, after looking at our group leader leading us to complete the project, I realize that I can improve a lot more than what I have now. What I liked the most about my group was my group mates can complete their tasks in a very efficiency way. The discussion, proposal and the campaign things can all be decided very soon and clear after lecturer brief us the project every time.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (WAH YUN CHEN (0319115)

In this assignment, I have learnt how to organize an activity with my group member. In this assignment, I also learnt that how to communicate with my group member. Moreover, my group leader leads us to set up the booth and we work together to set up the booth. This is what we can’t learnt in textbook. This assignment, will help me in the future when I want to set up a booth and how to communicate with strangers. Lastly, I want to thanks all my team mates and my lecturer gave me a chances to learn new thing.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (NGEOW XUAN YING 0323113) Firstly, I am really glad that we are able to accomplish this project smoothly throughout the period of time given. I’ve learnt a lot leadership, team building, and also team working skills as a result of this project. As a matter of fact, this team was initially quite scattered as we aren’t close and familiar to the other team members due to that we are from different semester of the course. But as time goes by, I can see the changes made while progressing with the team members, especially during the booth for out project “The Saw of Violence” where proper communication between the team members is carried out in order to make the booth successful. All of the team members took part in the planning, preparation, and also during the activity.

Overall, I’m really grateful that I’m able to grow and learn so much through this project together with the rest of my team members. Not only did I learn about the importance of a leadership skill, but I also learned that team working abilities is also very important in order to make a project successful! Besides, I’m rejoice that we were able to spread

awareness about Crime and Violence to the people around us through this project.INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (LOH PEY MUN 0318572)I am Loh Pey Mun, 0318572.The overall crime rate is designed as high for Malaysia is high in 2015. Crime and violence caused a serious impairment to economic and social development of a country. In many urban centers across the world, high crime and violence rates are undermining growth, threatening human welfare and obstructing social development. As a Malaysian, we all have the responsible to reduce the crime rate by preventing us become the victim. So, what we can do? We can make a commitment to reduce crime and violence in our community. For example, take the opportunity as neighbors gathered together to discuss about what can do or what will do. As simple as, set up a neighborhood watch or a community patrol and try to work with police. Besides that, try not to walking alone at day or night. It is very dangerous and stupid. So, find some friends to walk together. Police is the natural enemy of crime and violence. Build a partnership with police also very important; remember call 999 when you have any problems. This assignment not only can learn how to prevent ourselves from crime and violence. It is also about, how to communicate with group members and learned how to work cooperate together with members. It is very important and useful for our future works. And last, I would like to thank my group members that support and help me. Especially my group leader, Sean, he is really a nice and responsible person. Furthermore, I would like to thank to my lecturer for giving us opinion and guidance on this assignment. Thank you everyone!!!

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (LEONG KARR KHEI 0324362)

I will summarize some of the things that I learned that go beyond this subject. There were a few eye-opening experiences during this the booth project. Most of the words and ideas expressed are those that would fit comfortably in conversations about communities of practice.I think that this demonstrates the value of integrating social learning theory in the organization’s training programs..

I can speak from my experience. This booth project put me in a position to observe my environment and determine how to influence it in a positive manner. For me, a key learning was to step away from an approach that required formal structure and instead focus on areas where I was actively involved in sharing and learning with others. Another important part of my learning is that communities of practice do not just develop overnight. We need to build trust and establish social grace. Time-tested interaction allows this to happen. It allows us to negotiate meaning, so when we say words like “collaboration,” they mean the same to all.

During my research project, I was able to network with people. My efforts have lead to a site where we can capture collective knowledge. Had I not taken this action, none of this would have happened. Now, I have a greater awareness of social learning theory. These connections are potential conduits of activity for all who are connected to

me and vice versa.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (LEE KIT HUNG 0315722)

On 30 October 2015, Friday, our group was given a task to prepare a booth campaign which related to our selected topics which are Violence. The topic we choose is related to some factors such as our country is facing increasing crime rate, victims were unprepared for the unforeseen consequences and the lack of defensive arts they can do in such cases.

The task started on 10am, our leader, Sean Thun Shao Xun assigned group members and me to look after the booth in different time period. The event was from 10am to 3pm and took about 5 hours. As I had presentation from 11am to 12pm, so our leader Sean Thun Shao Xun assigned me to look after the booth after 12pm.

At first, I really felt nervous and excited because this was my first time to promote and advertise our project to public. By the way, I realized that the feeling of doing this task is meaningful and giving me a chance and opportunity to strengthen my weakness like shy to face strangers and not good at communication to others. I felt that this task giving me an ability to communicate and leading the organizations.

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (HAZIM 0315773)

On the 30th of October, on a Friday, we were given a task to prepare a booth campaign about the selected topics, in which our group chose a topic about violence. We chose the topic due to some related factors like the increasing crime rate that our country is facing, a lot of potential victims were unprepared for the unforeseen consequences that may happen to them, and the lack of defensive arts they can do in such cases.

The task took place in about 10am in the morning, where most students finish their classes. The night before the event, we planned to go prepare the booth around 8am just in case of some other unforeseen technical difficulties that might occur. Since I was assigned to design and prepare the booth, I had to go early. Most of us end up coming an hour late, including myself. I felt really nervous during the time I reach, because I thought I was already late. I turns out that I am still considered on time to prepare the booth.

During the time of the booth campaign, Me and Hong Wai was assigned by our group leader, Sean, to take care of the booth, while other team members promote and advertise. At first I felt really nervous, because, as a shy person, I don’t really like to be in a crowded place. But as time passes by, I find it actually not that bad. This whole assignment, in turn, gave me the ability to increase the level of confidence in myself. After the campaign, I felt like as if I’m a new person, with my ability to talk to random strangers without anxiety
