Building a Creative Culture
Charlotte Gauthier - UXPA - March 2017
“The role of a creative leader is not to have all the ideas; it's to create a culture where everyone can have ideas and feel that they're valued.”
What is creativity?
Creativity (n.) -The use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.
Can you use it in a sentence?
“Firms are keen to encourage creativity.”
“We owe it to them to make sure they get a fair return for their creativity, flair and inspiration.”
“Working in an office can suck out all of the energy and creativity in your system.”
Oh.
Why do youneed creativity?
More Productivity.

Facilitation > Command
Trust people.
Your preferences are not the arbiter of correctness.
Devolve decisionmaking.
Trust begets trust.
Don’t compromise.
Don’t work for people who stifle your creativity.
Don’t work for people who expect you to stifle your teammates.
“But it won’t workin my industry!”

“Great!I’m going to schedule a hack day!”
Compartmentalised creativity doesn’t work.
Cramming creativity into a tiny box is a sure way to discourage people.

Giving them ownershipwill give you freedom.
Thank you.
