DESCRIPTION
This project addresses how we contribute to continuous wastein the pursuit of fashionable interiors, clothing and furniture.In return it offers a response through the notion of up cyclingand building for re-design.Up cycling is a process of repurposing old materials in new ways to increase their value making it more desirable than it was originally.Building for re-design is building with deconstruction in mind,the building is therefore easier to maintain and adapt to newusers.

In New Zealand the overall waste generated from the construction and demolition sector is estimated at around 50%of waste to landfill.
In 1995, approximately 3,156,000 tonnes of solid waste was disposed of in landfills. In 2006, approximately 3,180,000 tonnes of solid waste were deposited into landfills. Each year, the U.S. building industry generates 136 million tons of waste. 9% comes from new construction 38% comes from renovation, 53% comes from demolition.
80-90% of construction and demolition waste is estimated tobe either reusable or recyclable. Only 20-30% of this waste ispresently recycled.
The latest environmental statistics state New Zealand as being 4th out of a total of 29 countries with the highest Pollution, Municipal Waste per capita. Municipal solid waste is a waste type that includes both commercial and domestic

HISTORY OF:
My site is no. 08 Egmont Street Te Aro Wellington.It is a heritage building located in an historical industrial site. Built in approximately in the 1920’s and originally owned byT & W. Young, today it is better known as the Bond Store apartments.
The building changed ownership a number of times but upuntil the 1980s this warehouse was consistently used for various manufacturing purposes such as Lees & Co who soldladies coats and Brundson & Co who sold slippers. During the 1990s the top floor was transformed into unit workshops and studios, which were leased at a modest rate to arts and crafts practitioners.It is a historical industrial site that embraces constant change,as similar industrial buildings in this area, no.8 Egmont streetwas converted into apartments in 1999.

This building works as a suitable backdrop to host night time events such as a fashion show, furniture exhibition, or a collaboration between both.

This staircase acts as a central display system inviting the occupants to view these furniture pieces.
These stairs are 3mtre wide allowing it to also act as a meeting place, hang out area and general hub of activity.

Working Studio Furniture:
Chair: The design is simple and allows for potential storage in the X compartment. Made using recycled materials. Textures here consist of two variations of wood.
Table: Making use of old bicycle wheels these tables are movable and continue the up cycle theme.

Nico press terminal to the end of a 2.5mm stainless steel cable.
A thimble (lining to loop) is inserted to protect the cable.
The cables are tensioned to the steel structure that linesthe space then interwoven creating the threaded wall.

Elastic is generally used for tightening, gripping, and holding. It is regularly used in garment construction due to it being aflexible material that provides stretch and recoverability.
