PROJECT 3| A PUBLIC ART STRATEGY
LENNOX BRIDGE CAR PARK SITE, PARRAMATTA
This site will be transformed into a first-class precinct known as ‘Riverside Parramatta’ by the Parramatter City Council. The development is aimed to create benefits for Parramatta’s community including a range of improvements along the river foreshore areas and public domains. A range of uses will be accommodated including cafés / bars / restaurants and Councils new Discovery Centre.
In this project, a public art strategy will be proposed for this site accompany with a indicative design solution. The flow will be:

1. RIVERSIDE THEATER• Opened in 1988• Can house up to 761 patrons with comfortable, plush seating in a conventional proscenium arch stage with orchestra pit and fly tower• Larger scale productions including international acts are often seen including Shakespeare, comedy, drama, ballet, contemporary dance and musicals
2. OLD KING SCHOOL GROUND• Was the first large private boarding school run by the Anglican Church to provide secondary education in the colony of New South Wales• Importance to the history and evolution of education in New South Wales with the School occupying the site almost continuously from 1836 to 1964

• Is on the site of the earliest documented crossing of the Parramatta River in the Parramatta area, dating from early colonial settlement• Is constructed of sandstone sourced from the Parramatta Female Factory quarry, completed in 1839
• Main access from the St Johns Cathedral square• Is currently the most popular wating hub, where can enjoy the buzz of alfresco streetside dining and the wide selection of international cuisine on offer

OBJECTIVE
From the analysis, it can be seen that the selected site is located at a critical position that can improve the surrounding area. There is potential to become a central square connecting surrounding context with special identity from landmarks, heritage and landscape . It is strongly believed that it would be a pleasant space where people are willing to stay and enjoy when some developments are implemented. For instance public art strategy and public square development.

•Providing educational programmes for community to recognise hisory and heritage in the city•Reinforcing the relationship between heritage and the site•Encourage local art work withing the area
•Develop registers of plaques, murals and street art•Monitor and assessing heritage to ensure conservation and refurbishment are carried out•The ongoing conservation preserves the many artisanal skills involved in repairing, restoring and telling the stories about these works for appreciation by current and future generations•Reducing maintenance needs by restoring heritage items in a way that ensures their preservation into future is critical
