Welcome to WE Model United Nations Training Camp 2009!

It’s a great honor to deliver my regards to you at the beginning of the camp. The training camp staff has been working tirelessly for nearly four months to make our training camp as enjoyable and intellectually stimulating as possible. I really hope that every one of you will have a great time over the next seven days of learning and exploring with each other.

MUN has been a major part of my life for four years. Ever since primary school, I have always possessed a passion for other languages, cultures and people. That said, it should come as no surprise that I chose to major in International Relations and minor in English, Japanese and French in Beijing Foreign Studies University. I have been very involved in MUN activities and other internships as well. I was chosen as delegate, Assistant Director, Under-Secretary-General and Faculty Advisor for many national and international MUN conferences. I was also been intern for Xinhua News Agency and CCTV, reporting on domestic and international news for the government. From all those experiences, I learned a great deal and dramatically broadened my

horizons. The more I learn about the world, the more important I find it is to share the world with you, the younger generation.

As Samuel Erman wrote over sixty years ago: “Youth is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotion, it is the freshness of the deep spring of life.” We want to share our will, our imagination, and our emotions towards MUN with all of you, to help you become more confident, turn into a strong MUN leader and achieve success in your future life. That is why, we gather here this summer in Beijing-- from Harvard, Yale, University of Pennsylvania, UCBerkeley, from America, Europe, Asia, from thousands and thousands miles away--to be friends with you, to share our passion with you, to demonstrate our vision of the world for you. This training camp is all about you. You are the real leaders here, dear delegates.

It is my hope that this training camp will be stimulating, exciting and entertaining – I hope you are ready! I look forward to seeing, talking and becoming friends with each of you I hope to see you make lifelong friendships with your fellow delegates from this training camp.

Enjoy your time!

Dear Delegates,

Cheers,

Ji Xin(Head facilitator of WE Model United Nations Training Camp 2009)

FOREWORD

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the WEMUN Training Camp .It is awesome to have the vibrant youth coming from all the provinces in China , to attend the training session together with us.

My involvement with Model UN started a year ago, when I learned about this academic solution for the youth to discover, and address solution to the world’s critical issues. In fact, Model UN will serve as a platform, for you to discover yourself, for you to connect with the rest of the world. And at the mean time, you will enhance your personal and professional development like negotiation , debating , and also develop your interest about the world’s development.

It can’t be denied that, the talent market around the world became more competitive due to globalization and the development of web 2.0.As the leaders of tomorrow , You and I need to equip ourselves with the flexibility, leadership, and also the wisdom, knowledge, so that we will get ready for the globalization era, and manage to survive and succeed.

The value of this conference lies in the opportunity of providing for an in depth of training, and also help you to get ready for

MUN conference local and overseas. But it also, is a start for you to discover who you are, and also how to become extraordinary from ordinary. Making changes in the world, making a better tomorrow for our future.

I believe that every student here has their own potential. But, you need to search for the key to release your potential energy into kinetic energy. (as simulation of Albert Einstein’s Energy Theory). Derive your sense, inner energy field, and deliberates to the world. Leadership is not about position but is about attitude. It is all about making difference to oneself and others. It is always a calling, an urge, an inner shirt to kick start and change others.

A living, walking talking, working, example of the “plan, brief, execute, debrief, WIN” approach, that makes us what we are, all over the world. True well meaning executioners, situational leaders, and gentlemen who know how to command respect and never demand it (taken from the Ticked by Life).

Nevertheless, let’s explore the extraordinary journey with the kick start of this training camp. I sincerely hope that you will discover your potential and make a difference to yourself and the others!

When ordinary becomes extraordinary

Yours Sincerely,

Sze Yan(Chairperson of WEMUN Training Camp 2009)
