The London construction market continues to grow stronger with over 2000 buildings either in planning, detailed design or under construction, despite Brexit hurdles, the general election and fire safety issues. Buoyed by the promised and much hyped "Northern Power House", the rest of the UK is catching up with London, replicating into major developments all over the country. Recently published data suggest that the construction sector in the UK grew by 0.7% in the first
quarter of 2017 and promisingly indicates to continue for the remainder of the year.
The UK façade industry undoubtedly has come a long way and is now vowing to deliver novel projects to the world. Right from deploying innovative materials and technologies; designing creative ecient, sustainable, interactive façades; to constructing façades with complex geometrical designs and 3D printed elements, the industry leaders are on their toes to make their
projects stand-out.
Continuing with the streak of successfully delivering the Zak World of Façades conferences across 12 countries, Zak is organizing its 35th global edition and the 1st edition in the UK. The conference will attract influencers of the building envelope industry to interact and deliberate upon innovations and technological advancements while finding the solutions to the challenges
impending with large scale projects and of those involving complexities in the design.
The conference will endeavor to help participants understand pragmatic approaches for the delivery of successful projects economically and within the time frame proposed, disruptions in façade technologies, geometrical analysis of façades, requirements and potential of façades for futuristic buildings, digitalization of façades, innovations in glass, façade fire safety, ventilation & acoustics will be major discussion points through the one day course of the conference and more
importantly ample networking oppourtunity.
Partake in the high-octane discussions at the Zak World of Façades conference, an exclusive knowledge sharing platform which also doubles as the avenue to identify and tap possible business opportunities available in the region. Dedicated to the building envelope segment, the conference will help participants gain industry insights and learn from the boots-on-the-ground
experts of the façade industry.
Get insights on complex geometric façade designs,
structural glass usage, closed cavity façades, ventilation &
acoustic design consideration in façades
Witness innovative products including electrochromic
glazing, high-performance concrete & insulation,
cladding materials, etc in the exhibit area
Listen to industry influencers and façade experts

CONFERENCE AGENDA
SESSION - 1 (08.50 - 10.25)
08.50 WELCOME ADDRESS Syed Zakir Ahmed, Chairman, Zak Group
08.55 WHAT WILL DISRUPT THE CURRENT FAÇADE TECHNOLOGY STATUS QUO? Façades have not seen major changes in technology since curtain walls in the 1950s, point support glazing in the 1980s and ETFE in 1990s, only improvements of materials and systems Change is constant and appears to be accelerating - but not so quickly in the construction industry Will materials, methods and design drivers emerge that will disrupt the status quo? Russell Cole, Associate Director, Arup

10.45 COMPLEX BUILDING FORMS: BEYOND GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS
Increases in computational power has unlocked the potential for individually manufactured cladding panels and digital fabrication. What analysis and systems are available to adopt the complex more routinely and cost eectively?
Increases in complexity and cost eectiveness means that we can not longer rely on worst case designs for analysis. How can we further automate algorithms for structural analysis to help solve this problem?
As regulations for energy use are becoming more stringent, ever more detail of the building envelope needs to be designed to perform thermally. How can we inform early stage design of non-repeating geometry, to optimise the building envelope?
Kenneth Zammit, Group Director - Façades, BuroHappold Engineering

09.00 WHAT WILL DISRUPT THE CURRENT FAÇADE TECHNOLOGY STATUS QUO? Façades have not seen major changes in technology since curtain walls in the 1950s, point support glazing in the 1980s and ETFE in 1990s, only improvements of materials and systems Change is constant and appears to be accelerating - but not so quickly in the construction industry Will materials, methods and design drivers emerge that will disrupt the status quo? 10.40 COMPLEX BUILDING FORMS: BEYOND GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS Increases in computational power has unlocked the potential for individually manufactured cladding panels and digital fabrication.
