Hon'ble Shri Raj Nehru, distinguished guests, faculty members and my dear students.

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all this evening to the 52nd Annual Day and Prize Distribution Function of our College. We are indeed privileged to have amongst us Shri Raj Nehru, the Vice Chancellor of Sri Vishwakarma Skill University, Government of Haryana and Mission Director, Haryana Skill Development Mission as Chief Guest for today's function.

Shri Raj Nehru is the youngest, founding Vice Chancellor in the country, who left his lucrative corporate career to serve the dream of transforming National Skill Ecosystem, that is on high priority in the State and the Country. He has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Sri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Government of Haryana, the first Skill University of India and the 6th in the world. Under his leadership, SVSU has pioneered the Dual Education Industry Integrated Model, which has become highly popular now as 'Earn While Learn' scheme. Recently, He has been also entrusted by Government of Haryana with an additional responsibility as Mission Director, Haryana Skill Development Mission.

He is also a part of various boards and governing councils like IILM University, Jammu Central University, NASSCOM Sector Skill Council, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology to name a few. He has been associated with Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Swadeshi Jagran Manch for the last 30 years.

We are indeed grateful to you, Sir, for having accepted our invitation to grace today's function as the Chief Guest. On behalf of the entire College fraternity, I extend a very warm welcome to you, Sir.

We are also priviledged to have with us Shri Atul Jain, General Secretary, Deendayal Research Institute, Delhi who readily agreed to our invitation to be the Guest of Honour in today's function. On behalf of the College fraternity, I extend a very warm welcome to you, Sir.

I want to acknowledge the monumental contribution of our former Principal Dr. P. K. Khurana towards the realization of the educational and cultural development of the Institution. Dr. Khurana has been educator extraordinaire, an astute leader and able administrator. An epitome of determination and courage, his perceptiveness transcended all boundaries. He was undaunted by challenges and was passionate towards creating multiple avenues for the students and staff of the College to realize their goals, both in terms of academic pursuance and cultural inclinations.

Dr. Khurana changed the entire landscape of the College beyond doubt through his dedication, sincerity, generosity and affability that are unparalleled. His humility and warmth have been both instrumental in and indispensible to the smooth functioning of the Institution. His holistic outlook and affirmative actions have ushered in a new and promising future for the College. An achiever and visionary, he has carried the progress and success of the Institution on his shoulders.

His exceptional services towards the College will definitely go down in golden letters. Dr. Khurana will forever be highly revered and affectionately remembered. I, on behalf of the

students and staff of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, warmly express my sincere gratitude for every act of kindness and thoughtfulness that you have rendered towards the College, Sir!

Shri Abhishek Gupta, former Chairman of the College Governing Body has always been very positive and encouraging towards all endeavours of the College. One of the primary reasons for the College scaling greater heights in the fields of academic and co-curricular activities has been his remarkable chairmanship, which has also been instrumental in smooth functioning of the College. I take this opportunity to thank him for his co-operation, guidance and leadership. We are thankful to all the members of the Governing Body who have wholeheartedly supported the College.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, a constituent College of the University of Delhi, has been imparting higher education in Commerce, Humanities and Social Sciences for almost over five decades now. We endeavor to provide vibrant student centric environment for the total development of our students focusing on academics, extra-curricular activities, sports, NCC and social work.

During the year under report, one of our senior faculty member, Dr. Bageshri Chakradhar retired as Associate Professor from the Department of Hindi (served with distinction from October 2003 to February 2019) on attaining the age of superannuation.

Shri Arun Kumar Gupta who served as Caretaker (Offg.) retired in December 2018 after 27 years of dedicated services to our institution.

We wish both of them the best of health and happiness in life.

Late Ms. Shaheen Bee retired as Office Attendant in April 2018 putting in dedicated services of 22 years to our institution.

Now, I present before you the Annual Report on the activities and achievements of the college during the year 2018-19.

CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS

Different departments of our college organized conferences and seminars during this academic year.

The Department of Commerce organised its two day 6th National Conference on Business and Management on February 24-25, 2019 on the focal theme “Guiding the way through 21st Century”, under the leadership of Dr.P.K. Khurana.The conference was inaugurated by Prof. K.K. Agarwal, Chairman, National Board of Accreditation. The conference witnessed participants from not only Delhi University but also from other parts of the country. I take this opportunity to congratulate Director, Dr. D.R. Saklani and the Organising Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Attree of the Conference and their team for the successful organisation of the conference.

The Department of Economics organised a One-Day National Seminar on the theme, “Globalism vs. Nationalism: The US-China Trade War and India” on February 11, 2019 at India International Centre, New Delhi. Eminent economists, academicians, trade policy experts and advisors to the government; in total 8 distinguised speakers shared their views on the theme. Prof.

Emeritus Prabhat Patnaik from CESP/JNU; Prof. Manoj Pant, Director IIFT, New Delhi, Dr. Rajan Sudesh Ratna, Economic Affairs Officer, UNESCAP, Prof. Sachin Chaturvedi, Director General at RIS, New Delhi, Prof. Abhijit Das, Head, Centre for WTO Studies, IIFT, New Delhi, Dr. Saon Ray, Senior Fellow at ICRIER, New Delhi, Dr. Jayant Dasgupta, former Ambassador of India to the WTO and Mr. Amar Sinha, Former Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India/Ex-Ambassador to Afghanistan delivered their talks.

This Seminar was attended by around 275 faculty members, students, authors, principals, researchers, experts in the area including the special guests. They belong to 9 Indian States including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. Delegates belonged to various subject areas such as Economics, Management, Commerce, Hindi, Political Science, Mathematics, International Trade, and Science. It is noticeable that the seminar was also attended by a retired faculty member from Bhutan, an Air Force School Teacher, a retired Colonel and a Delhi Police Personnel. Furthermore, NEWS 81 has covered the seminar in a special report (https://youtu.be/ylIuQ1k-caw) and Quomi Patrika published an article in THE SIKH TIMES. The Department as well as College has reason to feel pride on this big achievement of the Department of Economics for two consecutive years under the directorship of Mr. Jai Ram Meena who deserves my appreciation and applaud.

The Department of Geography in collaboration with The Association of Geographical Studiesorganised a two day (April 13-14, 2019) National Conference on "Historical Geographies of Location and Cultural Evolution in India" at Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics in which more than 150 scholars from various institutions in the country participated and presented their research papers. The Seminar was inaugurated by Professor Rana P.B. Singh from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, an expert in Cultural Geography. The other dignitaries in the Conference were, Professor R.B. Singh, Prof. V.K. Srivastava, Prof. P.C. Joshi and Prof. Kaushal Kumar Sharma from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.I congratulate Dr. Amrita Bajaj, Organising Secretary and each and every member of the department for the success of this conference.

The Department of Hindi organised a National Seminar on “Hindi Navjagaran aur Aaj Ke Sawal” on 29th March, 2019. The seminar spread over three sessions saw stalwarts like Prof. Veer Bharat Talwar, Prof. Mohan, Prof. Sheoraj Singh “Bechain”, Prof. Chauthi Ram Yadav, Prof. Sudha Singh and Mr. Hari Ram Meena giving their views. I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Jay Singh Meena, Organising Secretary and his team for the success of this seminar.

The Department of Political Science in association with Nehru Memorial Museum and Library organised an International Conference on 'The Gandian Way: An Idea Whose Time has Come?' in Teen Murti Bhawan on April 11-12, 2019. In all six technical sessions were held in which the conference brought together Gandhi scholars, political philosophers, theorists, historians, activists, policy makers and students to converse and engage with the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.Dr. Simple Mohanty, Convener and Dr. Pravin K. Jha, Co-Convener and their team deserves my appreciation for successfully organizing this conference.

COLLEGE PUBLICATIONS

'VANI’VANI -the College Annual Magazine has been always much appreciated. This year's issue of Vani is under preparation and will be released soon. Dr. Santosh Kumar and his entire team is putting all efforts to bring out a commendable edition at their end.

JOURNAL OF BUSINESS STUDIESIt gives me immense pleasure to report that the Journal of Business Studies of Department of Commerce has been included in the UGC List of Approved Journals. The Department has been bringing out this journal for last more than 30 years. The tenth volume of the Journal was released in the year 2018.I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. D.R. Saklani, Editor-in-Chief, for the ardent efforts made by him and his team in making the Journal scale new heights.

'LANDSCAPE’Landscape is the annual magazine of the Department of Geography with students' editorial board and it gives a platform for inter-university/ inter-college students to showcase their writing skills, and conceptual understanding of various environmental issues. This year saw the release of twelfth volume of Landscape in the Golden Jubilee year of the department with the focal theme 'Geo-Disasters: Challenges and Management'. I congratulate the Department of Geography for their vision towards holistic development of students.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE FACULTYBesides teaching, the faculty members of the college have been very active with their research work, publications and participation in seminars and conferences. Some of the highlights of their

works/achievements as reported by them are presented here.

Dr. Ruchi Gupta, Assistant Professor

• Authored the second thoroughly revised edition of the book titled “Advertising”, as per CBCS syllabus of B.Com.(Hons.) and B.Com. Courses of University of Delhi and other Central Universities of India, published by Scholar Tech Press in July, 2018.

• Keynote Speaker and Conference Chair at the 6th International Conference on Business, Economics, Management and Marketing (ICBEMM 2018) organised at the Queen's College, University of Oxford, UK, by FLE Learning from 13th-15th August, 2018.

• Participated in the two-week (10 days) Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Teaching and Learning in the Digital Era” organised by the Teaching Learning Centre, Ramanujan College, University of Delhi and Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi from 15-27 December, 2018.

• Presented a paper titled “Micro-Celebrity Endorsement in the Digital Era: Assessing the Impact on Brand Attitude and Purchase Intention” won best paper award at the 7th AIM (Academy of Indian Marketing)-AMA (American Marketing Association) Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium and Conference held at MICA, Ahmedabad, India, held on 4th-6th January, 2019.

• Presented a paper titled “Micro-Celebrity Endorsement on Instagram: Reaching Out to Consumers in the Digital Era” won the Best Paper Award at the 14th SIMSR Global Marketing Conference organised by K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Mumbai, India, held on 7th-8th February, 2019. The theme of the conference was “Marketing to Millennials”.

COMMERCE ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE: The committee organised a number of academic talks on diverse topics of Finance, Marke t i ng , Tax p l ann ing and Resea rch Methodology by eminent speakers from India and abroad:

• A workshop on the topic “Strategic Decision Making” and an academic talk on “Research Methodology” by Prof. Satyanarayan Parayitam, Professor, Management and Marketing, University of Massachusetts, were conducted on August 13, and August 16, 2018 respectively.

• A workshop on “Case Study Writing” by Dr.Nimit Gupta, Associate Professor, FIIB, New Delhi on November 14,2018. He shed light on how to write effective case studies and provided solutions to the strategic problems faced by modern day organisations.

• A workshop on “Tax Planning for Teachers” by Mr. Rajkumar Aggarwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, and an accomplished Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary, was conducted on February 15, 2019.

• A lecture on “Reporting of Sustainability Development in Financial Statements” by Prof. Anil Kumar Goyal, Rukmani Devi Institute of Advanced Studies,was organised on March 26, 2019. He stressed on the need for Global Sustainable Reporting and relationship of Sustainable Development with Financial Accounting.

COMMERCE ASSOCIATION:The Commerce Association is one of the most active, dynamic and vibrant societiesin the College and the University. Besides organizing events and competitions for students, it also forays into the activities aimed at sensitizing the students towards various sections of the society. The Commerce Associationworks for the grooming of its members in every sphere: academic, technical or

emotional. Dr. Ruchi Gupta and Ms. Aarti Saini were the teacher advisors of the association for the year 2018-19.

WebinarThe Commerce Association provided the students of the college the unique opportunity to attend a webinar delivered by Industry Specialists for IIM-Bangalore on a topic that focused on personal development to shape the leaders of tomorrow through Web-Connect. The Session was organised on 14th September, 2018. The topic “Personal Branding and You” was presented by Mr. Aniisu K. Verghese, Corporate Communications Head, Tesco, Bengaluru. With insights into personal branding and tips provided to help become the best by means of a practical model, it was overall a great learning experience for all and everyone lauded this initiative.

Contrivance 2018The Commerce Association hosted the fourth edition of its trademark annual case study competition, 'Contrivance', on the theme- “Entrepreneurship in the Changing Global Environment”. The competition required the participants to prepare an original case study within the purview of the above stated theme and to present their analysis. The judges were surprised at the quality and in depth analysis of the cases done by students at the undergraduate level.

Blanket Donation DriveFollowing the decade long tradition, a blanket donation drive was organised in November. The members of the Commerce Association, along with the teaching staff, raised money for the purchase of 45 blankets in total, which were distributed amongst the working staff. The smiles on their faces inspired the Association to carry out more such generous activities for the welfare of the larger society.

Blood Donation DriveThe Association organised a blood donation drive with the mobile blood collection van of the Rotary Club in the college premises on 21st January, 2019. A total of 70 students came forward to donate blood for the greater cause of saving lives of those in need.

Adwitya – Hunar Aur Jazbe Ka SangamAn event recognizing the talent of specially-abled students, the belief behind Adwitya is that 'everyone is special.' The fourth edition of this event attracted a footfall of more than 70 studentsfrom various colleges of the University. The performances ranged from heart-warming songs to entrancing dance performances to beautiful poetry and even mimicry!

Newsletter – SBSC CommuniqueThree editions of SBSC Communiqué were launched and distributed in this session. With the aim of creating original and fascinating content which would benefit the readers, columns like word search, crosswords, general, business and sports news c o l u m n s were based on different themes for

the 3 editions. A separate column was also added to highlight the achievements and progress of the Commerce Association.

Uddayam 2019The Commerce Association hosted the 9th edition of its flagship event, UDDAYAM 2019 on February 12-13, 2019. The two-day extravaganza was attended by over 1650 students from different colleges and universities. A plethora of events were organized during the two days, namely, Time Travel: Travel through the Ages,B2C (Buy to Create), Corporate Affairs and Commverse.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICSThe Department of Economics remained engaged in organizing following activities during the session 2018-19:

Online Quiz Competition 'ECO-QUIZZER 2018’Economics Department organized a software based Inter-College Online Quiz Competition on September 26, 2018 for undergraduates. It was the first ever event of its kind organised by the Department. Various students pursuing graduation from UGC recognized Universities and Colleges in Delhi NCR namely Symbiosis, Jamia Millia Islamia and Indraprastha University and various DU Colleges participated in the quiz.

Trip to Jim Corbett National Park The Department of Economics organized a 3-day trip from September 28-October 1, 2018 to Jim Corbett, Ramnagar (Uttarakhand) for the students of B.A. (H) Economics. 45 students went for the trip along with 3 teachers, namely Mr. Jai Ram Meena (Coordinator), Dr. KamleshKumari and Mr. Sohanlal. The trip was a great interactive and learning experience for the students of the Department.

Academic Talk An academic talk on the topic “Riskless Capitalism: India's NPA Story”was organized by the Department on October 10, 2018. Dr. Rohit Azad, CESP, JNU, New Delhi delivered a very interactive lecture. The lecture was excellent and enriched the students with the knowledge of India's NPA Story and its linkages with capitalism.

Econotize 2019Ecospire, the Economics Society of the College organized Econotize, the Annual Economics Festival on February 27-28, 2019. It turned out to be a great success. Ecospire initiates new events

every year, and this year, we organized Chug and B.A.S.H, with the idea of searching for marketing skills and creativity among participants. We also came up with other events such as Quizgen 2.0 to test the knowledge and awareness among participants regarding contemporary economic events. A Committee Simulation with the agenda of Promoting Free Trade and Global Trade Transparency in the light of Globalism vs. Protectionism and a Mock Stock event was played to simulate trading in stock markets while learning the fundamentals regarding capital market.

Department 'Blog’The Department has created a blog which is available on the college website at viewing towards Economics Department. It is very useful for students of B.A. (H) Economics as well as for the students of GE Economics. The blog will provide the access of the department achievements, the activities of the Economics Society, CBCS Syllabus and Syllabi Minutes recommended by Delhi School of Economics, Old Exam Papers etc. The entire data is easily downloadable. DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISHThe Department of English is renowned for helping the students understand life and literature beyond the classroom. In order to achieve this end, the department organised a series of literary lectures throughout the academic session 2018-19. The lectures were aimed not only at addressing different aspects of the university syllabus but also intended at providing opportunities to the students beyond the curriculum. The first of these, 'Journalism: The Art of Story Telling', was delivered by Yash Chawla, Senior Journalist and former News Reporter and Anchor with NDTV. The second lecture 'Introduction to Literary Theory' was delivered by Prof. Simi Malhotra, Professor, Department of English, JamiaMilliaIslamia on 11th Oct. '18. The final lecture of the session was based on the Popular Fiction paper offered by the English department. This lecture titled, 'Cultural Nostalgia in 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' and 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd'wasdelivered by Dr. Christel Devadawson, former Head, Department of English, University of Delhi.Apart from the lectures, the English Literary society also organised various film screenings helping the students bring a visual approach to literature. These film-screenings are aimed at broadening the socio-cultural perspective of the students. In this academic session, the society screened films like 'Khamosh Pani', 'RitikGhatak's 'Swarnarekha', 'The Hound of Baskervilles' and 'The Woman in White', etc.

The English Literary Society is not restricted to the academic nourishment of its students, but also celebrates the zeal and enthusiasm of popular forms of literature by organising the department fest annually. The student office bearers of the English Literary Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Bricolage, under the guidance of the teacher-in-charge, Ms. Garima Yadav, organised a two day Department festival, Epiphaneia on 21st and 22nd of February 2019. The fest began with a talk titled 'Re-casting the Classics' by Prof. Sukrita Paul Kumar, a renowned Indian poet, critic and academician. Dr Kumar was previously a Professor of Literature at CIC (Cluster Innovation Centre) University of Delhi. Her lecture was focused on how classics have been incorrectly

understood and need a refashioning across visual and performative media. After the talk there were various events like 'Verse Come Verse Served' (Slam Poetry), 'Spellomania' (Spell Bee) and 'I Scream Meme' (Meme-Making) which gave the students a chance to put on display their creative and imagination skills. The festival was a tremendous success as many students from different colleges and universities participated in the festival.

DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHYThe Department of Geography is one of the most prestigious departments of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College that has always been committed to achieve brilliance. It provides ample opportunities to the students to gain knowledge through classroom, lab and field experience and thereby facilitating holistic development. The exceptionally lively and vibrant academic environment of the department has always inspired students to attain great heights. The students of this department have been achieving top ranks in national and international competitions, winning various awards in different inter and intra-college activities and have been highly successful in further careers that includes jobs at multinational companies, universities of great repute, government and non-governmental organisations and recently have qualified in civil services exams at national and state levels . This year Department of Geography celebrated its Golden Jubilee Year as in 1969, this department was first introduced in the college.

This academic year started with the visit of Professors from University of Oradea, Romania to our department. Three faculty members visited our department on July 10, 2018 under staff mobility program, of which two of them were from the Department of Geography, Tourism and Territorial Planning, namely Prof. IliesDorina Camelia, Professor with specialization in General Geology, Geomorphology, Geosites, Natural Heritage Management and Natural Heritage and Prof. Iles Alexandru, Professor and Head of the Department of Geography, with specialisation in Urban Studies, Demography and Tourism. Teachers along with students of our department met and interacted with them during the program.

Further, the Department organised its “Inaugural Function 2018-19” on October 5, 2018. The chief guest of the function was Prof. H. Ramachandran, distinguished urban geographer and National Fellow at Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID). The office bearer posts were allotted to the students of the Department. The office bearers from the Geography Association for the year 2018-19, under the guidance of the Teacher In-charge Dr. V.A.V. Raman and the staff Advisor Dr. KavitaArora, undertook responsibilities for carrying out the academic and extra-curricular activities throughout the session.

As field work in geographic studies has been the backbone of the subject since its inception, the Department organised an educational field work between December 24-30, 2018 to Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS,ISRO) as well as DD College, Dehradun and Lansdowne under the guidance of Dr. V.A.V. Raman and Dr. Krishnanand. The team attended lectures and training at IIRS, ISRO and completed ground truthing exercise based on observations and Remote Sensing data at Lansdowne.

Students of the fourth semester visited Munsiari, Pithoragarh, Uttrakhand for their field work entitled 'Socio-economic and Physiographic Structure of Kumaon Himalayas: ACase Study of Munsiari, Pithoragarh, Uttrakhand' from March 9-15, 2019, under the guidance of Dr. Krishananand and Dr. V.A.V. Raman. Few students of the fourth semester also conducted a Delhi based survey on “Geographical Analysis of Markets in Vicinity of North Campus: A Comparative Study of Kamala Nagar and Kingsway Camp” under the guidance of Dr. Rashmi Rani Anand and

Dr. Vijay Pandey.

The students of the sixth semester conducted field work on “Disaster Vulnerability in Chirag Delhi and Shiekh Sarai” in the month of February under the supervision of Dr. Kavita Arora and Dr. Chandrakanta. The students also conducted a field work from March 8-18, 2019 on the topic “Disaster Preparedness and Identification of Socio-Economic Vulnerability in Western Ghats and Coastal Areas” under the guidance of Dr. Amrita Bajaj.

The department organised its annual extravaganza 'Vasundhara-2019' with the theme 'Environmental Inequalities' on March 6-7, 2019. It was followed by a variety of events like Quizography, Chitran (poster making competition), Flip back (turn-coat debate competition), Picturesque (photography competition), Visionary (documentary making competition), Prahasan (skit competition) and a Students' Symposium, a Round Table Conference. The annual magazine 'Landscape' was published under the mentorship of Dr. Swati Rajput and released on this occasion by the principal Dr. Anil Sardana and senior geographer and founder professor of the Department Dr. Krishna Prabha.

The Geographers' Youth Conclave (GYC) was held on March 29-30, 2019 on the theme “Everyday Geographies of D e l h i : T h e o r i z i n g Experiences” in which s i x t e e n t e a m s o f undergraduate level from different institutions within Delhi NCR participated. The purpose to organize such a creative event was to provide an interact ive a c a d e m i c p l a t f o r m t o undergraduate students

where they can showcase their research aptitude. This two-day event was marked by the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Department in which the founder professors, alumni and staff of the Department were felicitated and honoured. The plenary lecture on this occasion was delivered by the eminent geographer and founder professor of the Department Dr. V.K.Tyagi on the topic “Urbanisation in Delhi: Problems and Prospects.”

The Department, in collaboration with Institute of Photogrammetry and Geo-Informatics (IPGI) , Dwarka, New Delhi conducted a workshop on “Photogrammetry, R e m o t e S e n s i n g a n d G I S (Geospatial Science) with emphasis on Disaster Management” on April 5, 2019 under the mentorship of Dr. Poonam Sharma and Dr. Kavita Arora for the students of IV and VI semesters in order to acquaint them with future career options in the field of geospatial technologies.

DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY Nationalism and Partition of India were dominant themes pursued by the Department of History for the academic year 2018-19. Eminent scholars and academicians were invited by the department to deliver lectures and interact with students.

The Department inaugurated its academic session with a lecture by Prof. Heeraman Tiwari, Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prof. Tiwari delivered a lecture on “Memory and Language in Hisory: A Sanskritic Journey.”Subsequently, Mr. Shakti Sinha, Retired IAS, and Director, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, delivered a lecture titled “India as a Nation in History.”

An eminent scholar from the Department of History, University of Delhi, Prof. Amar Farooqui, delivered a lecture on “The First World War and Freedom Struggle in India.”The theme was further carried forward by the renowned scholar Prof. Mridula Mukherjee, Centre for Historical Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, who delivered a lecture on “Partition of India.”It was followed by a lecture on“Partition of India and Cinema”by Prof. Partha S. Ghosh, Retd. Professor, Centre for South Asian Studies. Students had interactive sessions with all the speakers which not only enlightened them but also broadened their horizon.

The Department organized a trip to National Heritage site for the students in an attempt to generate awareness about our heritage. A visit to the National Museum was organised under the guidance of Ms. Mita Hussain. A guided tour of the students was organised by the department to National Archives to enable the students to see the exhibition on proscribed literature.

A logo of Historia – the History Society, was officially released jointly by Dr. P.K. Khurana, the then Principal of the College and Mr. Shakti Sinhaat a function and lecture organized by the department. Yugantar, the annual festival of Historia, was organised on February 25-26, 2019. It is an attempt of Historiato conserve as well as educate the masses about history and culture through various cultural programmes. This two-day event experienced a footfall of more than a thousand students. In addition to many other events, a picture gallery was also set up on the theme “Urdu and Partition” during the festival with the help of the partition museum, Amritsar.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Teachers' DayThe students of the Department of Mathematics organized a teachers' day event to pay respects to their faculty on September 5, 2018. For making the event enjoyable, many games such as singing retro

songs, logos and taglines, quiz, dance performances, guess the song and passing the parcel were played. Further, every teacher was given a unique title, all adding up to make Teacher's day a fun and enjoyable event. Concluding the event, teachers conveyed their appreciation and blessings to the students for all their love and efforts for organizing the event.

Invited Lectures On January 16, 2019, two lectures by well-regarded mathematicians Prof. Tamas Kovacs, Institute for Theoretical Physics, Eotvos University, Budapest, Hungary and Prof. Alex Haro, Department of Mathematics and Computing, University of Barcelona, Spain, were organised. Professor Tamas Kovacs delivered his talk on “Chaos Theory and its applications” focusing on the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions and reliance on programming at the initial level.The second lecture was delivered by Professor Haro, who talked about “Mathematics of Space Missions” and explained how Genesis was a NASA sample-return probe that collected a sample of solar wind particles and returned them to Earth for analysis.

Movie Screening: The Theory of EverythingThe Mathematics Department also screened a movie titled “The Theory of Everything” on January 23, 2019. The 2014 movie is a biographical drama film, starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. It details the life of the theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking, his diagnosis of

amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as motor neurone disease), and his success in Physics.

The screening was a huge success and had a lot to offer, and the young minds present in the event had many takeaways by the end of the day. It taught the students how a person must act in times of crisis, and no matter what the situation is,she/he must never give up their dreams.

GANITAM-2019 (The Annual Festival of the Mathematics Society)

To provide platform for students to showcase their talent and the competitive spirit, the Department of Mathematics organized its two day inter-college annual Mathematics fest, 'GANITAM-2019' which was held this year on March 5-6, 2019. The festivalwas inaugurated with an invited talk by Prof. Ajay Kumar (former Dean, Research &Former Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Delhi).A total of 8 events that includedpaper presentations and panel discussions on the topic “Mathematics is important but should it be compulsory?” which lasted for about 2 hours, Breaking Bad Quiz based on a popular TV series, Mathletes (the Maths Quiz), Trade X (Mock Stock), Pottematics (Pot Painting Competition), and Treasure Hunt. The interest and active participation by students from various colleges at these events made the event a big success.

DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCEThe Department Of Political Science organized a special lecture on “Secularism, Communalism and the Indian Politics Today” by Professor AchinVanaik on September 19, 2018. The lecture enlightened the audience about the myriad facets of both the terms i.e.

secularism and comunalism per se along with the inter relationships between them. Professor Vanaik discussed the entire trajectory of these very important concepts along with its ramifications on the present day politics.

CHANAKYA'Well done is better than well said.'Chanakya 2019,the Political Science Fiesta of the College was held on March 15-16, 2019. The inaugural event of the festival was a film screening called 'Sisak,' the first silent Indian film based on LGBTQ rights followed by 'Nazariya: A pride talk' by venerated panelists of the day, AartiSingh,GourabGhosh,Nupur Ray and DurbhoJyoti. Among the plethora of events,were Artrageous (where students having flair in artistic finesse expressed global political issues on canvas), Fake-O-Nomics (a competition based on fake and mysterious controversies), Pol-eloquence (the declamation competition), and Lafz-E-Bayan 2.0 (a bilingual slam poetry competition). There was a Panel Discussion on Agrarian crisis with special emphasis on women and Swaminathan committee report.

B.A. PROGRAMME ASSOCIATIONThe B.A. Programme Association organized several events like SwachhataPakhwada, an educational trip to the Parliament of India, a lecture on “The Emergence of States in India” and VIVIDH'19 – The Annual Cultural Festival of B.A. Association.

Swachhata Pakhwada In collaboration with ONGC and LADLI foundation the association organised “Swachhata Pakhwada,” a seminar and cultural event on the theme 'Beat Plastic' on August 16, 2018. This event was followed by poster making, slogan making and creative writing in which more than 200 students participated and displayed their creative and intellectual skills. The panel of guests comprised of Mr. Ashok Tyagi (South District Education officer), Mr. Devendra K. Gupta (National Youth Awardee), Mr. Satya B. Jain (Social Worker), Mr. Nitesh Gupta (Senior HR Executive, ONGC), Dr. V.A.V. Raman (Associate Professor, Department of Geography), Mr. Venkatish Gupta of National Express, Ms. Tanya Chadda (Chief Coordinator of LADLI Foundation), Dr. P.K. Khurana (Principal SBSC) and Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Sinha (Convener B.A. Programme.). The various competitions were conducted simultaneously followed by a panel discussion in the seminar room with the above mentioned guests as our panelists.

In the panel discussion, Dr. Raman discussed the technical aspect of the theme “Beat Plastic” and explained its significance and ramifications. Mr. Tyagi and Mr. Jain discussed various issues and challenges related to plastics, which cause environmental problems,as also their impact on human being and animals.

An Educational Trip to the Parliament of IndiaThe association organized an educational trip to Parliament of India on dated January 8, 2019, and a group of 34 students of this department got an opportunity to understand parliamentary procedures and functioning. They were guided by the Convener, Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Sinha and the organizing secretary, Mr. Anant Prakash. Students interacted with the honourable Member of Parliament Mr. Manoj Tiwari,Mukul Roy, Former Railway Minister and MP in Rajya Sabha, and

Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Honorable Member of Parliament. The students also observed the functioning of the Lok Sabha.

Lecture on 'Emergence of States in India’Theassociation organised a lecture on “Emergence of States in India” on February 14, 2019 which was delivered by eminent scholar Professor M.P. Singh. The prime focus of the seminar was to enlighten the students with the emergence of states as a concept. This discussion was followed by a question-answer session.

VIVIDH'19 –The Annual FestivalThe association also organised the Annual Cultural Festival VIVIDH on March 5, 2019. The theme was “Vividhta main Ekta.” It emphasised on the concept “Unity in Diversity.” This year, the association organised events like Indica 2.0(Quiz on India), Golden Bird (treasure hunt on Indian Revolution) and Alfaaz (the Bilingual Slam Poetry Competition).

SBSC-CENTRE FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT

The year 2018-19 was the year of glory for the Centre for Skill Development. Under the guidance of Dr. Anil Sardana as Convener and Dr.Pooja Talwar as Co-convener, the centre achieved new heights and success in each of its endeavors. The Centre organized various workshops and seminars for the b e n e fi t o f s t u d e n t s . I n September,2018 organised a workshop on 'Emerging Technologies', at India International Centre, New Delhi in collaboration with SBSC Alumni Association. The workshop featured interactive sessions from Eminent speakers such as Mr. Venkat Iyer, Director at Cyber Security Team, PwC and Mr. Praveen Gupta, Associate Director – Intelligent Automation & Transformation, Management Consulting, PwC.In November, 2018: The Centre for Skill Development organized 'Winternovate',first ever online internship fair of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. The fair saw more than 25 companies recruiting more than 100 interns, which proved that the idea of winter internships is indeed one that has a lot of potential in future.In February, 2019,under the convenership of Dr.Noopur Agrawal , yet another feather was added in the cap of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College by organizing TEDxSBSC - an independently organized TED event. A daylong event with 8 diverse and unique speakers talking about 'Generation Z' - the focal theme of TEDxSBSC, the event saw an amazing response from the students and staff alike. The event was path breaking for Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, as TED is an internationally renowned community and organizing such an event gives the college recognition on the global stage.To wind up the eventful year, The Centre organized its flagship event “ Internovate 3.0” – The Annual Internship Fair of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College's on 13th March, 2019. More than 35 companies, including Reliance Jio, SBI, Times of India, Jindal Steels, Decathlon etc. were on

board. The event saw a turnout of more than 400 students from all over Delhi University. The event received appreciation from all sections of the college, and proved yet again that the Centre for Skill Development is on the rise and its growth is not going to end anytime soon.

CENTRE FOR SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH STUDIES AND RESEARCHThe Centre for Shaheed Bhagat Singh Studies and Research organized a programme 'AasmanHilta Hai Jab Gaate Hain Hum' on September 1, 2018. Using images, music and narration, the early period of progressive writers movement was explored. The key concerns of creating a just, equal and caring world was articulated by readings from the works of writers like Premchand and poets like Dr. Rashid Jahan, Ali Sardar Jafri and KaifiAzmi by Dr. Saman Habib and Mr. Sanjay Mattoo. The hour long program was widely appreciated by teachers, students and the guests. I appreciate the efforts of Ms. Mita Hussain, Associate Professor, Department of History in coordinating the activities of the Centre.

CENTRE FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT STUDIES (CDMS)This year, our college instituted the Centre for Disaster Management Studies (CDMS) on a proposal from the Department of Geography. The Centre for Disaster Management Studies in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College has been established with the vision to become an epitome of excellence in Disaster Risk Management through synchronization between like-minded institutions. With this as its vision, the Centre was inaugurated on February 1, 2019. The chief guest for the inaugural was Dr. V. Thiruppugazh, Gujarat cadre IAS officer, currently Joint Director (policy and plan), National Disaster Management Authority, New D e l h i . A s e s s i o n o n D i s a s t e r Preparedness was also organised under the aegis of the centre, conducted by Mr. Nawal Prakash, National Disaster Management Authority, New Delhi. The Centre will soon plan and execute various activities and training programme for teachers and students. I congratulate Dr. V.A.V. Raman, Director of the Centre and the team for their efforts in setting up this centre.

LIBRARY: KNOWLEDGEAND LEARNING RESOURCE CENTREIn 2018-19, the main accomplishment of Library is the recruitment of 8 permanent employees comprising of 5 Library Attendants, 2 Semi-Professional Assistants and 1 Library Assistant. As per the sanctioned staff strength of the college library, out of 11 posts which were advertised, 8 positions have been filled up enabling the library to take care of its holdings by regular employees with utmost responsibility and sincerity. Library is a growing organism and like every year this year too library has grown in terms of its resources and services. This year 1523 titles have been added to the collection in which disciplines like Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Geography, Political Science, History,

English and Hindi language and Literature are particularly well represented. In our effort to welcome and honour the demand of our students and faculty members 474 titles have also been added in our Reference Section comprising of competitive entrance books; general knowledge books; yearbooks; reports; atlases; etc. Further, in order to enrich our Light Reading Section, 69 popular titles by acclaimed, celebrated and awarded authors have been added. The total accessioned volumes as of now are 88547; however, the total collection of serviceable copies as on date is 63552 after deducting the collection which has been weeded over a period of 25 years. Library is also subscribing to 101 Periodicals, comprising of 62 Journals and 39 Magazines of academic and general interest. Another notable milestone achieved during this year is the completion of Stock Verification activity. The extensive exercise of Physical Stock verification of Library Books was concluded this year as per the extant GFR rules for the period of 12 years i.e. from 2005 to 2017. The weeded out titles are also sent for Recycling through an NGO – JAGRITI along with back issues of newspapers. In addition, the library reached out to the faculty members through its Academic Lecture on the Topic: Some Insights into Academic Writing – Theory, Skills, Ethics& Standards which was organized on November 15, 2018. The talk was delivered by Prof. Bhanu Murthy - Former Dean Faculty of Commerce and Business, Delhi School of Economics and Professor of Economics, University School of Management and Entrepreneurship, East Delhi Campus, Delhi Technological University.As a result of our continuous efforts towards improving the services, general ambience and aesthetics of first and second floor of library, the usage of library resources and service has witnessed a significant boost. Some of the basic initiatives being taken this year in this regard are: Provision of RO water in Library; Improvised washroom facilities; enhanced seating capacity etc. In all with respect to the usage of library resources and services the total footfall witnessed during the year in number is 73000 and total number of check-outs was 15,320. The footfall in Faculty E-Resource Centre was 1400 and in Students' E-Resource Centre numbered to 2500.

INTERNAL COMPLAINTS COMMITTEE (ICC)Under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 and in response to the UGC Regulation, 2015 (Prevention, Prohibition and

R e d r e s s a l o f Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Education Institution), the Internal Complaints Committee was established in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi. The Committee organised two major events in this academic session.

On October 26, 2018, the Internal Complaints Committee under the Presiding Officer Ms. JyotiVarshney conducted a talk on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace.” The talk was given by the eminent Supreme Court Advocate,Ms. Bulbul Das, Member AIWC. In her talk, she highlighted the measures that should be taken by women to tackle sexual harassment like directly approaching the Internal Complaints Committee, and

the role of the NGOs or the police who would investigate the matter while maintaining the confidentiality of the complainant. She also detailed the punishment given to the suspect when found guilty, and the students as well as teachers put up questions regarding the laws that deal with sexual harassment. The event witnessed a large audience and was a great success.

Another major event organised by Internal Complaints Committee was an Intercollege street play competition on the Theme “Naari Ko Shraddha Nahi Samman Chahiye”. This street play was organised keeping in view the degree of impact it has on people and the way it brings to surface the most important social issue of the of the world that is, state of women in the society.

T h e i n v i t a t i o n s f o r t h e participation were sent to all the colleges of Delhi University and the event received an overwhelming response. The Chief Guest for the event was Advocate Bulbul Das. The Panel Members for the competition were Mr Ajay Sethi, Ms Kanchan Chetal and Mr Rajesh Amrohi who have years of experience in theatre and acting. The event witnessed participation from colleges like Miranda House, Kamla Nehru College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (M), Sri Arobindo College, Aditi Mahavidhalaya, Deshbandhu College, Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Guru Gobind Singh College etc. All the colleges performed exemplarily showcasing their creativity in highlighting a major issue of the society. The competition was won by Kamla Nehru College. This event too witnessed a large audience and was a big success. I appreciate the efforts taken by the Presiding Officer of ICC, Ms. Jyoti Varshney.

INTERNATIONAL COORDINATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (ICDP)In this academic session the College also established the International Coordination and Development Programme (ICDP) with the objective of promoting International Cooperation, Coordination and Development of relations with faculty, students and institutions from abroad. ICDP endeavors to take initiative to establish International Exchange for students and faculty members.ICDP was inaugurated on 8th August, 2018 wherein Professor Russel Currie, Professor of Marketing and Former Dean School of Business and Economics at Thompson Rivers University from Canada delivered the inaugural lecture on “Emerging Trends in Education from North American Perspective”. On this day, Prof. Satyanarayan Parayitam, Professor, Management and Marketing, University of Massachusetts also provided his views on the international exchange programme. An ICDP Summit titled 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' and an Interactive session on 'International Business Growth' was also organised under this programme. I congratulate Dr. Amrita Bajaj, Coordinator of ICDP and appreciate her untiring efforts in this programme.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Alumni Association in collaboration with Centre for Skill Development organized an engrossing workshop on 'Emerging Technologies' and how they are changing the placement requisites, at India International Centre, New Delhi on 25th September 2018. The workshop featured interactive sessions with Eminent speakers like Mr. Venkat Iyer,

Director at Cyber Security Team, PwC and Mr. Praveen Gupta, Associate Director – Intelligent Automation & Transformation, Management Consulting, PwC. They kept both the students and alumni e q u a l l y e n t h r a l l e d . T h e presentations were followed by avibrant Q & A session.The association also organized a workshop in the College on The Future of Web Design on January 17, 2019 by an alumnus Ms. Kasturika Ramamoorthy, anIndependent Design Consultant. The students and teachers both benefitted in this interaction.

An Annual Dinner for Alumni members was organised on 25th November 2018in the College premises that was well attended by Alumni, both retired and present teachers and the Principalof the College.

The Alumni Association organized its Annual Spring Reunion on 31stMarch 2019 for 'BASICOLANS' at Sri Sathya Sai International Centre, in which the main attraction of the event was a scintillating performance of India's longest running comedy, “Ghalib In New Delhi” and the programme also had the felicitation of alumniswho had made a significant contribution in their own field and to the society at large.I congratulate Mr. V. Shekar, President SBSCAA and his team and appreciate the efforts taken by the Staff Advisor, Dr. V.A.V. Raman.

Under the leadership and guidance of the Convenors, Dr. Ruchi Gupta and Ms. Garima Yadav, all the societies have won a collective tally of a whopping 230 prizes throughout the year, which is a record in itself.

Bhagat Singh JayantiThe College celebrated Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh's 111th birth anniversary on 27th September, 2018. The poet of 'Veer ras,' Shri Gajendra Solanki, was invited as the chief guest for this special occasion.

The day started with the flag hoisting ceremony, followed by paying a tribute to ShaheedBhagat Singh. The then Principal, Dr. P. K. Khurana, welcomed and addressed everyone present. The function kicked off with entertaining cultural performances. A stunning painting of Bhagat Singh, made by the fine arts society, was unveiled by Shri Solanki and the principal. This was followed by an inspiring speech by the guest, Shri Gajendra Solanki, about patriotism and the unconditional sacrifice made by Shaheed Bhagat Singh along with a reading of beautiful poems composed by him.

List of Achievements of the Cultural Committee (2018-19)

Film TantraFilmtantra aims to bring independent cinema that breaks the barrier of form, language and subject matter to a student audience by organising regular screenings and an annual film festival that saw its second edition successfully culminated in March. Filmtantra has also made 5 films in the academic year along with after-movies for major cultural events in college. These productions have been screened at student festivals across Delhi and won 2 prizes. The 2nd annual film festival 'Cineville' started with a workshop by MAAC on VFX, Filmmaking and Animation. After the workshop, a total of five independent films were screened ranging from documentaries to fiction, and two directors of the movies screened were also present for interaction with the students. The festival culminated with a student film-making competition that received over 50 entries from all over the country and had a jury comprising of eminent directors like Shaunak Sen.

EnvisionThis year has been an eventful one for Envision. The society bagged 19 prizes from different colleges all across Delhi, out of which 17 prizes were awarded in solo competitions and 2 in team events. Various members of Envision also had their photos showcased at photo exhibitions of different colleges in the University. The Society tirelessly covered all the events held in the college and other colleges in DU. Envision hosted its two-day annual fest Len-ô-vision on March 30-31, 2019, which was a part of Dastaan'19, comprising of 3 competitions: Shutter up, Studio vogue, and Photothon. The members also put up their annual photo exhibition named Qafila which showcased more than 200 photographs clicked by the members over the year.

Audiophile Audiophile, the music society bagged about 45 prizes this year which spanned across various categories. These included 15 prizes in Solos, 15 in Band Competitions for two of their original compositions for the year and 7 prizes in Indian Classical, Semi-Classical and Fusion Duet competitions. The newly formed Indian Classical Choir of the society bagged its first ever prize with its original annual piece. Audiophile organised its Annual Music Fest Swaratmika on March 31 during Dastaan'19 in which 3 different events were hosted by the society: the Indian classical Choir Competition, the Battle of the Bands and the Indian Light solo Competition.

MerakiMeraki, the Creative Writing Society, has budding writers who are not only proficient with their pen but also articulate orators and slam poets. They have won 16 prizes in slam poetry competitions and 9 in creative writing competitions all over DU. Meraki organized its two-day Creative Writing Fest-Alfaaz 2019 on 30th& 31st March 2019. Budding poets and writers joined in to recite their poems at Jabberwocky and Mulahiza. The Creative Writing Competition, Barge In The Monologue, and Just A Minute sessions got huge responses from city writers.

PrometheanThe members of Promethean, the fine arts society, wonvarious prizes in clay modeling competition, graffiti on canvas,Face Painting, pot painting, newspaper dressing competition, poster making and political cartoon making competition in different Colleges and Universities in Delhi NCR. From decorating the college for various events like Bhagat Singh Jayanti and the annual cultural fest Dastaan'19, the group has worked tirelessly throughout the year.Promethean successfully hosted 3 events under Harlem'19: Around the campus , Whimsical: The Tshirt painting competition and Sadakchap during Dastaan'19. The society members createda photo-booth adjacent to Block A in the College, the beautiful decor of which was appreciated by everyone.

SpardhaThe Western Dance Society won several competitions all over the country. With over 50 competition titles won in the season, Spardha was also declared as Winners of the Delhi Dance Fever'19 and was awarded with the title of the Best Team.

NatuveNatuve - The Theatre Society organises its very own street play and stage play festival, 'PAIGAAM' and 'SPACE' consecutively. Natuve brings Immersive theatre to Delhi University, by indulging the audience themselves in the play. Also, hosting a total of 9 of the best campus theatre teams with an approximate footfall of 3000-4000 people including all the theatre fanatics in Delhi, PAIGAAM evoked the revolutionary essence of street theatre, thereby spreading myriad social messages.

RevolutionistsThe quizzing society won a total of 10 events this year and organised 5 quizzing sessions in the college.The society organised its Quizzing Fest - Inquilab on 30th and 31st March during Dastaan'19, which for the first time saw participants from foreign universities such as Princeton and Purdue University.

The Hindi debating society has won several prizes both in the College as well as in other Colleges of the University this year. The event 'Antarvirodh' was organized by the Revolutionist's Hindi Debating members. The topics were a mixture of politics, economy, social and current issues.

Noor Noor- the Fashion Society hosted Aurora'19- a fashion competition on 30th march 2019 in Dastaan'19, the annual cultural fest of the college Students from different courses and years of the college showcased on the topic “Feminism.” Mr. Lakshay Chaudhary, youngest Mr. India in the history of India and Ms. Shradha Malik, a young Fashion blogger were the esteemed judges for the day. Many fashion societies from Delhi University participated in it.

I take this opportunity to put on record my appreciation for the excellent work done by the students under the leadership of Dr. Ruchi Gupta, Convener and Ms. Garima Yadav, Co-Convener and congratulate them for their pain staking efforts to mentor the students and give them the proper guidance and direction for their growth in future.

E-CELL PM YUVA YOJNA E-Cell is the official Entrepreneurship Cell of the College, formed under PM Yuva Yojna. A team led by Dr.AnilSardana as Convener and Dr.Pooja Talwar as Co-convener aims to create an enabling ecosystem for entrepreneurship development within the students. E-Cell introduced several new entrepreneurship related courses to help the students gain the required theoretical knowledge to head start their entrepreneurial journey.An Intra Society B-Plan competition was organised to inculcate the spirit of entrepreneurship and idea generation within the members of the E-Cell. Further, a team of 4 student members from the E-Cell participated in a two day E-Leader's training workshop conducted by the Wadhwani

Foundation at Bennett University.

The PM YuvaYojana course commenced with its first session in full swing. Over 50 students were mentored by Dr. Anil Sardana in tandem with the Wadhwani Foundation to give students a headstart in their entrepreneurial career. The focus was laid on practical knowledge and activities were conducted through the tenure of the course to help students understand the subject better.

The E-Cell organised its first ever flagship event, EMINENCE'19 on 22nd January, 2019 which constituted an entrepreneurial competition "One Dollar Venture" which was followed by a speaker session by an eminent celebrity Priyansha Jain (Winner of MTV Dropouts). Besides, E-Cell has been conducting regular brainstorming sessions to boost the zeal of entrepreneurship and start-up trend in India and aims to establish their own Campus Company to leave the imprints of entrepreneurship in the minds for decades to come.

ENACTUS SBSCIn July 2018, Enactus SBSC was selected as one of the top 24 teams among 108 teams across the country for Enactus India Nationals competition. Three Projects, namely Project Roshni, Project Aahar and Project Vidyut were presented. Project

Roshni, after impacting more than 100 blind people, is now a sustainable venture.

Project Aahar received wide appreciation for the entrepreneurial model and the number of lives impacted. It generated a revenue of Rs.95 lakhs by selling hygienic food to people through carts.Project Vidyut was highly commended for the unique cause and ingenious idea of the project as Enactus SBSC was one of the only colleges working towards sustainable energy and the importance of use of

alternative sources of energy in the future.In December 2018, Enactus SBSC was one of the twenty teams that were awarded the KPMG Business Ethics Grant of Rs. 50,000for the continuation and expansion of their projects.Under Project Vidyut in 2018-19, four bio-gas plants were set up in the village where they were mainly supplying bio-gas as a kitchen fuel at menial rates and produced manure as a by-product which was then further sold by the villagers. Since then, more than 40,000 kgs of manure had been produced amassing a total revenue of Rs.3,24,000 for the farmers which resulted in an additional income of Rs. 81,000 for each homes.

In addition to the Projects, various PR campaigns were organised which were closely related to the causes Enactus team had been working on. In the village of Jaunapur they conducted “Campaign Noor” installing LED bulbs in various shops, also educating the shop owners about the benefits of LED bulbs over CFL bulbs with the goal of changing the lives of the people for better and improved working conditions.

On National Martyrs Day, a “Campaign Kurbaan” which consisted of collecting donation from civilians around various busy locations in Delhi-NCR and the money collected was used in improving the condition of the under privileged women and upliftment of the war widows of the Indian Armed Forces. In a collaboration with Feeding India, the team organised “Campaign Vyanjan” wherein a soup kitchen was setup in the college and students were asked to make bread jam sandwicheswhich were then donated to a shelter home in NizamuddinWest,New Delhi.

FINANCE AND INVESTMENT SOCIETYThe activities of the society started with an orientationon August 1, 2018. Attendees were briefed about the society and what we do by our team members. Also, an interactive session was conducted by Mr. Rishab Ahuja and Mr. Ashwini Joshi from ICICI Securities. The other events organised were:Pump and Dump - To test the skills of trading and negotiating, Pump and Dump was organised on October 8, 2018, whichfocused on providing exposure to bidding, outcry, and profit optimization. The winners were declared on the basis of final lot sizes and the largest percentage profit.Academic Talk by BSE - A talk by Ms. DivyaChugh from BSE was organised on 15th January, 2019onthe topic of Investing.It proved to be an informative talk. The purpose of the talk was to introduce students to the financial markets and how to begin investing their money so as to create their wealth. The speaker discussed various financial products available to the general public and the differences between them. Cromulent 2019 - The flagship annual fest of the Finance & Investment Society was held on 20th February, 2019. The fest consisted of 5 events: Finsight( Financial quiz), Rich Kid Poor Kid (a board game mimicking real financial life inspired from the book Rich Dad Poor Dad), Stock Quest 2.0, Oil-o-Poly (a simulation of global oil markets) and Investocrats. I appreciate the able

guidance of the Convener, Dr. Ravi Kant, Department of Commerce.

HARITHKRAMStarted in September 2012, Harithkram – The Environment Society of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College with the motto, “BEYOND THE BOUNDARIES,” has strived for promoting green and sustainable activities in all corners of our lives. Harithkram has come a long way and has always stood by its mission to create environmental awareness.

The Society started off its programme of awareness by observing the World Environment Day on June 5, 2018. A sapling plantation drive was organized in the College on this occasion. The faculty, staff and students conducted a small brain-storming session on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.” Harithkram attempted to spread the message in the College by circulating flyers and posters on this crucial issue.On September 7, 2018 Harithkram celebrated itsSeventh Foundation Dayin the college premises. On the occasion, an eco-campaign for

paper-free student elections and a meeting with the team of WWF was conducted. The latter apprised the students of ECHO – a volunteering program for youth in colleges. The ECHO team of our College worked on a conservation action project subsequently.

Harithkram hosted the third edition of Delhi University Sustainability Forum, 2018 on October 11-12, 2018 on the focal theme “Environmental Sustainability: A Challenge?” The Conference aimed at discussing the indispensable question of environmental sustainability as a challenge for human beings. The conference comprised of four segments: School Students' Conference, Harithkram Youth Summit, Young Scholars' Conference and National Photography Competition.

The Conference undoubtedly achieved its aim of evoking profound thoughts among the youth which was also acknowledged by our guests of honor Prof. Usha P. Raghupati (National Institute of Urban Affairs, New Delhi) and Prof. R.B. Singh (Prof. and Head Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economicsand Secretary General & Treasurer, International Geographical Union).DUSF 2018 was blessed by inspiring messages from none other than Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the incumbent minister at Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Ministry of Earth Sciences and Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Parliamentary Affairs.Harithkram also spoke up against Climate Change by taking part in the global initiative by Earth Hour 2019 by WWF in the College premises from 8:30 PM onwards. Like every year, we counted down together across the college to celebrate Earth Houron 30th march, 2019 and take the one iconic action: switch off the lights. We discussed how the simple action is a symbol of unity, a symbol of hope and commitment towards mitigating climate change, and a symbol of belief in and the power of collective action towards the same.

With these initiatives and programs Harithkram is tackling the challenges of Environmental Sustainability amongst Youth under the able guidance of its Convener, Ms. Mita Hussain and Staff Advisor Dr. V.A.V. Raman.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC)The NCC unit of 135 Cadets which comes under 4 Delhi Battalion NCC of Army Wing of Delhi Directorate, Commanded by Colonel S.B.S Yadav has left its mark on an endless list of events. The NCC unit of the college has been acclaimed as one of the best units in the entire University. Its cadets have maintained the position of high regard everywhere by achieving new milestones. The Cadets are doing commendable job under the guidance of the NCC Incharge Dr. Krishna Murari.

M.S. Shailendhar Dev have recently completed their training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. SI Hitesh Rathore and SI Ajay too have completed their Sub Inspector's training in BSF. Other Initiatives/ActivitiesDuring 2018-19, many initiatives were undertaken by the NCC:• SSB Workshop was organised by the college NCC unit. Ex GC Dhruv Yadav was invited for

conducting the Workshop, who himself is an Alumni of College NCC.• Most Adventurous Cadet Trophy initiated by Captain Arjun Kapoor, 63 Armoured Regiment,

Ex IMA Dhruv Yadav and Ex JUO Umesh kumar has been rolled on to next year.• Officers Alumni has gifted the College NCC with 50 Books to improve our personality which

would help us in SSB.• Our Officers Alumni has started a Shaheed Bhagat Singh Scholarship in which the Cadets who

clear CDS Exam would get a Scholarship of 75% only if cracked in the very first attempt during the college session and secure an Alpha Grade in C Certificate, the Cadet would get a defined set of Books for preparation of SSB.

On the occasion of second anniversary of the Surgical Strike conducted by Indian Army, the NCC Cadets of our College celebrated the day as ShauryaDiwas. A seminar was organised in the college which was presided over by our Chief Guest Major Anirudh followed by our Guest Speakers Asstt. Commandant Avinash Roy from CRPF and Sub.Ashok Jagran who is a Kargil war hero. War time experiences were shared and they gave an insight into the life of a soldier. NCC fest ChunautiThe annual NCC fest Chunauti was held with great zeal and enthusiasm on 15 March 2019. Colonel S B S Yadav was the Chief Guest and Lt M S Shailendhar Dev, SI Ajay and SI Hitesh Rathore was Guest of Honour on the occasion. More than 22 colleges across Delhi participated and won different competitions. Close Quarter Combat and Section Attack were lime light of the event. Wall of Integrity was furnished this year. Abhishek Sheoran was appointed as the new Senior Under Officer of NCC unit of the College.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME AND WORLD UNIVERSITY SERVICESThe National Service Scheme and World University Services unit of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College successfully conducted various socially relevant events throughout the year ranging from cleanliness drives to meaningful debates and seminars on topics that affect the society as a whole. The NSS and WUS Volunteers initiated and participated in several activities under the guidance of their Coordinator, Dr. Binay Kumar Sharma.

Before the beginning of the academic session, an Admission Help Desk was put in the college during the

admission period to help out the new students with admissions and queries. The team also helped in the organization of the Orientation session of the college for the 1st year students.The academic year started with the implementation of the SwacchtaPakhwadawhich was done in two phases from August 1-15, 2018and from September 1-15, 2018. The team also enthusiastically celebrated the 49th NSS day on 24th September 2018 by engaging in various activities focused on the theme of Swachhta hi Sewa.

The unit also organized a Flood Relief Donation Drive for the victims of the devastating Kerala floods.A winter donation drive was also organized in the month of January to collect warm clothes for the needy. Voter Awareness Forum was organized on 16th January 2019 to increase voter awareness and encourage electoral participation and Voters'Day was celebrated on 25th January 2019 by taking a pledge for ethical electoral participation.

A debate competition on the theme of “Sustainable Energy” was organized in collaboration with HARITHKRAM on 27th February 2019 and a talk on “The Protection of Animals” was organized in collaboration with the Vegan Outreach NGO.

In addition to these events, the team conducts weekly cleanliness drives and also action plan meetings. The volunteers also offer to be scribes for the specially-abled students in their tests and examinations. The members also participated in the Delhi Walk-a-thon.

NORTHEAST CULTURE MEETThe Northeast students at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College organised their annual cultural festival "COALESCE" on 23rd February 2019 in the college premises. It was organised jointly with Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Evening). Ms. Mercy Epao, Director, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, was the chief guest of the event. She exhorted the students of the Northeast to think beyond their graduation and said there are various entrepreneurship opportunities pertaining to the Northeast region. Principal, Dr. PK Khurana, as the patron of the event congratulated the students for organising the annual fest and encouraged them to find ways to be involved in other college activities too. The program showcased many colourful dances and unveiled many talented students from the region.

Apart from the cultural fest, the North East Students Society was actively involved in assisting the Northeast students for admission to the college. They also participated in the annual sporting event organised by 5th North East Students Society of Delhi University (NESSDU) and achieved overall championship for the second consecutive year. I congratulate Dr. Veio Pou,

Nodal Officer for Northeast Students and the students of the North-Eastern region of India for organizing this cultural meet.

PLACEMENT CELLThe Placement Cell, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College is the official association of students responsible for inviting companies and facilitating the placements of students who are a part of the college as well as promoting personal and skill development through various seminars.

Under the able guidance of Dr. Shikha Gupta, the Placement cell has been immensely active right

from the beginning of the academic session. The inaugural placement drive of the college took place in the first week of August 2018 when Deloitte USI, the leading company among the big four in India visited the campus. The much awaited drive was highly successful as it witnessed more than 250 students appearing for the drive. A record-breaking 31 students were hired for the first time by the company in any college campus. The overwhelming start was just the beginning. The first drive was followed by on-campus drives of Ernst & Young GDS, KPMG Global, Bain Capability Centre and KPMG India. By the end of the first week of September, the Placement Cell boasted of placing more than 100 students in five companies across diverse profiles. As things stood, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College has one of the highest number of placements until today in the entirety of University of Delhi. (As per record comparison)

Not only corporates, but the cell also welcomed non-profit organization “Teach for India” for recruiting students. The aforementioned companies were followed by other companies that included NIIT, Wipro, and Genpact. Not only job placements, but companies were invited to hire students for articleship. The firms included Mazars and AARK India. This session was the first time big three management consultancy firm Boston Consultancy Group conducted its recruitment operation for Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. An intensive eight months have witnessed the cell achieve new heights in serving the college. As of March 2019, more than 160 students have been presented with offers from various companies. Among them, more than 130 are job offers whereas more than 30 have been hired for articleship.

This year has been remarkable for The Placement Cell. It has seen an 18% increase in number of student registrations. All the Big 4 companies have entertained students from the college. For the first time in the history of the cell, two of the Big 3 management firms have not only conducted drives but have recruited students. Statistically, more than 20 companies have hired students from

our college with an average CTC of ₹4.69 lakhs. The highest on-campus package is ₹20 lakhs

offered by D.E. Shaw. As far as diversification of profiles is concerned, the profiles on offer include Audit Associate, Junior Knowledge Associate, Risk Analyst, and Sports Leader among many others. It is with great pride that The Placement Cell of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College boasts of standing 2nd in the University of Delhi in terms of number of students placed.

It is a matter of great privilege to mention that The Placement Cell is conducting a CV vetting process for the first time in college. In an attempt to stand true to its high-standards and excellence, it is now mandatory for the second-year students registered with the cell to have their CV certified from the cordinators. Seminars were conducted for the same to inform and help students build a better CV. Hence,we promise to commit ourselves, to diligently provide services to the college with professionalism and we would extend our gratitude to the college staff for being supportive in our operations.

SPORTSDr. Sarvchetan Katoch, Convener, Sports Committee and Mr. Balvinder Singh (In-charge) Assistant Professor organized various sports activities in the College. This year our College participated in Inter-College, tournament (organized by Delhi University Sports Council) in Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Cricket, Chess, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Boxing, Foot Ball & Athletics. To promote and develop sports and sports culture among the students and staff various competitions were also organized. Inter-class competition in cricket, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Chess, Volley Ball, Athletics and Basket Ball were held.

The Annual Sports Day and Athletic Meet was held on 3rd April, 2019. A large number of students and member of both Teaching and Non-Teaching staff participated in this event very enthusiastically and won prizes. The Chief Guest on this occasion was Mr. Amit Khanna, International Athlete and former National Record holder.

The college also organised its 7th Annual Mega Sports Event Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament, where in record teaching staff cricket teams of 20 colleges participated. The tournament was won by Moti Lal Nehru Evening College by beating Shivaji College. Mr. Azhar of Moti Lal Nehru Evening College was adjudged as Man of the match.

In P.K. Khurana Challengers trophy, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Teaching staff cricket team beat the Non-teaching staff cricket team by 80 runs. Dr. Sarvchetan Katoch was adjudged man of the match.

STUDENT'S UNIONStudent's Union elections were held on 12th September 2018 under the strict supervision of its Convener Dr. N.S. Nag. During the Academic Year 2018-19, the Student's Union organized Fresher's party and Diwali mela in the first semester of the academic session. Student's Union also organised its Annual College Fest (Daastan) in collaboration with Cultural Council on March 30-31, 2019 in the college. The star attraction of the programme was the performance by playback singer Guri.

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL (WDC)Women Development Cell, under the convenorship of Ms. Garima Yadav, has been active throughout the year in its efforts to raise gender sensitivity in the college campus through sustained activities. We began with petitioning former principal Dr. P.K.Khurana for appointing a student counsellor. As usual, the proposal was met with great enthusiasm and willingness and in a few weeks' time, Ms Saniya Bedi was appointed as the student counsellor. It was a small but sure step required for ensuring the psychological well-being of our students.

With constant film screenings, discussions, talks, and workshops, Women Development Cell ensured that the college remained a gender neutral space where cisgender and transgender students alike felt completely at ease. In September, a workshop on 'Women and Law' was conducted where Gauri Viswanathan (lawyer, Supreme Court and alumna of Cornell Law School) trained the students in laws concerning women. Subsequently, WDC held another

workshop on 'Gender Sensitization and Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace' by Titas Ghosh.

Films dealing with nuanced portrayal of gender as a site of exploitation as well as resistance were screened and discussed. Ketan Mehta's acclaimed film, 'Mirch Masala' (1987) and Deniz Gamze Erguven's tour de force, 'Mustang' (2015) were amongst the films that were screened to facilitate a dialogue about historical as well as contemporary cinematic portrayal of gender dynamics.

The annual festival of WDC, FeMen 2019 saw some spectacular events, including debate competiotions, poster making competition, fame-the-shame among others. A duet performace by popular singer VRK was a part of the festivities where songs were sung of love, freedom, and revolution. The inaugural lecture was delivered by Hon'ble MP Ms Meenakshi Lekhi, which was held in collaboration with the Student Union of the College SBSC.

YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS SOCIETY(YES)The Young Entrepreneurs Society under the guidance of Mr. Jai Ram Meena organized various workshops and campaigns. The year started with the orientation where Mr. Gautam Raj Anand (Founder at HubHopper), Mrs. Kavita (Founder at Dhoon Foundation) and Ms. Gayatri M Bansal (Founder at THERE) graced the event.

YES organized the KERALA DONATION DRIVE in collaboration with Feeding India, where the students organized donation drive for the victims of Kerala Flood. It was a moment of honour when our society was given a certificate of appreciation from Kerala Government for their contribution.

The society organized various events like TAGATHON which was an online marketing based competition. ChocLit Project which was an startup initiative taken by the society where the society partnered with a vendor manufacturing handmade chocolates and gift boxes and sold these boxes among the college students during festivities.

In September 2018, the society organised “VIVA la VIDA- The Pride Campaign ” in collaboration with Harmless Hugs. . The basic agenda behind this campaign was to create awareness among students about decriminalisation of sec377 and sensitise them towards LGBTQ community.

Corporate Combat was the first major competitive event organized by YES in 2018 after a successful Orenda. Corporate Combat was created with the idea of simulating a real world crisis situation with the twist of entrepreneurship.

The sixth edition of The Young Entrepreneurs Society's Annual Fest Orenda was held in the college campus on 19th February. An exhilarating amalgamation of 6 events combining fun filled activities like Clues Control, B-Plan, Raider Trader, House of Lobbying and Auction. The fest lived upto its expectation and had a footfall of around 700 students from colleges across Delhi NCR. With the dawn of New Year and the passing of each day, Young Entrepreneurs Society carries on its mission of spreading the light of Entrepreneurship that will lead the young and aspiring minds to conceptualise, rationalise and channelise their ideas into business plans.

STUDENTS'AID FUNDThe students' aid fund of the college gave aid to 100 students and fee concession in partial or full to 12 students belonging to various courses.

GOLD MEDALS AND SCHOLARSHIPSTo encourage academic talent the college gives numerous medals and scholarships. This year 13 gold medals, 11 silver medals, 54 scholarships and two cash prizes have been awarded to meritorious students of various courses.

In the end, I would like to thank my colleagues from both teaching and non-teaching who have extended their hand of cooperation and total support in managing the affairs of the college.
