Merced College is located 46 miles north of the mid-point of the state, in the center of the San Joaquin Valley. With a population of 82,500, Merced is small enough for comfort and large enough for convenience. It has an average temperature range of 48-95 degrees, with 12.5 inches of annual rainfall. It is set in the agricultural richness of the Valley but is proximate to some of the most

dramatic attractions in the state. The San Francisco Bay Area is two hours’ drive to the northwest; the Pacifi c Ocean beaches of Monterey and Santa Cruz are two hours due west; Los Angeles and Hollywood are four hours south; Lake Tahoe/Reno, four hours northeast, Yosemite, two hours due east.

COACHING STAFF

Connor Greene, Assistant Coach

Head Coach Scott McCall Ed.D. Coach McCall is in his Fifteen season as head coach at Merced College after 3 years of assisting Scott Weimer. A Merced native he graduated from Merced high school in 1995. McCall competed in swimming and water polo all four years in high school and was a member of the 1994 CIF San Joaquin section championship water polo team lead by head coach Steve Eccles. He then went on to Merced College where he was an All-America in water polo under Coach Bob Pollitt. After receiving his AA he transferred to the University of Massachu-setts at Amherst. Coach McCall played two years of water polo under Coach Russ Yarworth. During the two years Umass was the top team on the East coast winning the Eastern Champion-ships in 1998 and making the NCAA Final Four. He graduated from Umass with a BS in Exercise Science.

Coach McCall began his coaching career under Ricardo Azevedo Long Beach Shore Aquatics. He coached for two years with Johnny Bega for Long Beach Shore and Millikan High school in Long Beach. While studying at CSULB he became a certifi ed strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA. McCall graduated from Long Beach with a MS in Kinesiology and fi nished his Ed.D in Organizational Leadership in May of 2017. His dissertation was titled, The Leadership Behaviors of a Successful NCAA Division I Water Polo Coach: A Phenomenological Study. Coach McCall resides in Merced with his wife Anne and three children Reid, Cord, and Maren.

Connor Greene began his aquatics career at Merced High in 2007 under the coaching of Stephen Eccles and Kit Grattan. Connor attended Merced College where he earned 5-time All-American in swimming under Coach Scott McCall and is currently school record holder for the 100 breaststroke and 200 I.M. After Merced College he attended Fresno Pacifi c University where he played water polo under Bryan Suhovy and Rick Merlo. He also was a member of the swimming team under Josh Christensen. In 2015 he became the assistant coach at Merced College under Scott McCall. In addi-tion, Connor is the head boy’s water polo coach at El Capitan high school.
