Copper Based AlloysDetails of some specifications and types available.
The European brass rod industry and their associated nationalstandards organisations have co-operated to create a range ofinternational material specifications for extruded brass products.
The UK brass rod industry is acting collectively to keep customersand potential users fully informed on the style, content andapplication of the new standards. The standards were officiallyadopted in May 1998.
As a first step to assist in the transition, a list is shown below whichgives the old and new alloy designations of the most popularalloys.

ACRYLICAcrylic is available in cast and extrudedform. The main characteristics of clearacrylic are its outstanding transparency, chemical resistance, outdoorweatherability and dimensionalstability. Plexiglas doduble and tripleskin acrylic sheet is available for glazingand insulation applications.
PVCRigid Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) has goodmechanical strength, is resistant to mostchemicals, can be readily machined orfabricated and is widely used inindustry. PVC foam is a lightweight rigidmaterial that has a smooth surfacewhich is ideal for silk screen printing.
NYLONNylon is produced in various grades forengineering applications. Nylon 66 isthe hardest in commercial use with hightensile strength and modulus ofesasticity. It is easily machined and is thefirst choice for a variety of mechanicalcomponents.
ACETALA material similar in manycharacertistics to Nylon 66 butdistinguished by low moistureabsorption and high stability in varyinghumidities. Not as wear-resistant asnylon but can be used in conjunctionwith nylon enabling all-plasticassemblies to be utilised. It is readilymachined to produce burr-free closetolerance components.
PTFEA material unique in its combination ofexceptional chemical and electricalresistance, wide operating temperaturerange and ease of machining.
INDUSTRIAL LAMINATESIndustrial Laminates are establishedengineering materials based onphenolic, epoxide or polymide resinswith fabric, paper or glass fabricreinforcement.
POLYCARBONATEPolycarbonate sheet is the toughesttransparent thermoplastic produced andhas outstanding impact strength(guaranteed unbreakable) making it anideal material for a variety of glazingand industrial applications.
