Angela Zumpe

Born in Berlin

Specialized as a filmmaker on documentary films for theatrical release and videoart.

Since 1998 Professor for Audiovisual Media at the Anhalt University - Departement of

Design in Dessau

Education: Painting at University of Art, Berlin (UdK), finishing with Masterdegree

Scholarship from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for New York University,

studies of Film and Television, (MFA).

AZ had various Art Exhibitions, also worked as creative director for mayor german TV-

stations (n-tv, MDR, RBB, RIAS TV/Deutsche Welle, SAT 1)

lives and works in Berlin

Selected film projects: 2009 TRANSIT, documentary film 90 min., for theatrical release, shot in High

Definition

West Germany between economic revival (Wirtschaftswunder) and the

student revolts. Three people relocate from West to East Germany. Three

motives, three biographies, sharing a search for heimat. Stories, photos,

facts, and documents are the mosaic stones which form an image of a

generation in transit.

What messages do mothers leave behind for their daughters?

“Whispering Game” is about a mother-daughter relationship, narrated

through animated photography, super-8 footage and 16-mm film material,

based on notebooks compiled by the artist’s mother about family events

starting in post-War Germany.
