Pirate Eye Patch Template

Now then shipmates, when you’ve made your eye patch, ask a grown up to hide some treasure for you to find in your bedroom. Make the room dark and pretend you’re a pirate ‘below decks’.

Does the eye patch make it easier to see or harder?

Pirate Density

All pirates need to know about what will sinkand what can float. (You’ll want to know too if you have to walk the plank!)

Today you will do a density experiment to understand how different things behave in oil and water.

Interesting Pirate Fact!Pirates wore earrings because they believed that they improved their eyesight, too!

Do you think that could be true?

If I Was A Pirate…

Click on the link to sing along with «Over the Open Sea!»https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVfVIcW1alo

Interesting Pirate Fact! All ships had a Pirate Code. The code was a set of rules that each member of the crew must abide by, and no fighting was one of the most important rules.

What would your Pirate Code be?

Can you draw a picture of yourself as a pirate? Add some words to describe what you look like and your favourite pirate things to do.

Session 4

Sink or Float?

Pirate ships need to be able to withstand the Seven Seas. The material that they are made from will decide if they sink or survive! Try our science experiment to find out the best materials for making a ship.

Interesting Pirate Fact! During the time of pirates, women were not usually allowed aboard the ship. That didn’t stop some women becoming pirates though!

Session 5

The thing that all pirates love best is treasure! And where do they keep their treasure? Why in a treasure chest, of course! Sometimes pirates even bury their treasure to make sure their sneaky pirate pals do not find it! Today you’ll make your very own treasure chest. Pirate Flag

Click on the link below if you want to be a piratehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDKlKiMIYv4

Interesting Pirate Fact!Pirates designed their own flags with personal symbolsthat were unique to each pirate. They are commonly known as ‘jolly rogers’.

Hey there, shipmates! Today it’s time to really identify as a pirate! You will need to think about how you want other pirates to see you with your very own pirate flag…and matey, I sure hope it’s scary… Aarrh!

15

Session 6

Ahoy there, shipmates! We’ve got this far, and there’s no giving up now! To make sure you stay strong and healthy on board your ship, we’ll be making some scurvy medicine.

Interesting Pirate Fact!Pirates had to add spices and rum to their water to make it drinkable. After so long on board, it got really

rather smelly.

Session 7

Ahoy matey! It’s time to learn some real pirate tricks so today we are going to discover how to waterproof the ship and follow a trail whilst blindfolded! Avast ye!

Plunder(To rob/steal)

Create a blind string trail and test your skills of navigation!

Ask a grown up to set up a trail in your home (or outside if you have a safe

space). Lead the string around, over, under and behind objects. Wearing a

blindfold, see if you can follow the trail to find the treasure! Challenge your friends and family to follow the trail. Who can complete it in the quickest

time? Good luck me hearties!

Interesting Pirate Fact!During the Golden Age of pirates, sugar was more valuable than gold!

Session 8

Ahoy! Today we are going to try to blend in with the rest of the pirates by making a hook to go on our hands. Then we’ll practice walking the plank! Are ye brave enough me hearties?

All hands hoy!(Everyone get

on deck)

©2019 Globeducate | Private and Confidential 20

Walk the Plank!

Interesting Pirate Fact: Some pirates really did have hooks for hands or peg legs because they got injured during battle. The peg leg would help them to walk and the hook helped them to pick things up and carry things.

If you’re feeling weary after all that plank walking, check out this link for some pirate cosmic yoga!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_0P5grVoygClick on the link to see Swashbuckle walk the plankhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z49Js-_Bu8M

You need to have good balance when you walk the plank so that you don’t fall off! Watch the video to see how you can practice, then challenge your family and friends to a competition. Who can walk the plank the fastest without falling off? Can you walk the plank whilst balancing a cushion on your head? Can you do it blindfolded? Good luck matey!

Session 9Today we will make our own pirate ship and then fill it with treasure and see what happens! Batten down

the hatches! (Prepare for

difficulty)

Can you guess how much treasure can go on board before it sinks? Write down how much you think and then try it out. Were you right? Did your ship manage to stay afloat with all of the treasure on board?

Message in a Bottle

Interesting Pirate Fact: Many pirates had parrots as pets. There was not much space on board the ship for animals but parrots were pretty, entertaining and could be taught to speak. The pirates often got them on the islands they visited and sold them when they got back to land.

Click on the link to see Captain Feather Sword and his friendshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq2NWl-L1rU

Pirates marooned on a desert island would write a letter and send it over the ocean in a bottle, hoping somebody would find it and come and save them. What will you write on your message?

©2019 Globeducate | Private and Confidential 23

Session 10Ahoy there matey! You're nearly home safe and sound! You’ve proved yourself to be an excellent pirate, you convinced even the mean Pirate Pointy Beard with your pirate talk and your pirate songs! Fill out your Pirate Passport so you can travel aboard a pirate ship any time you like!

Pirate Food!

Click on the link to hear a song about being a piratehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8ju_10NkGY

Interesting Pirate Fact: Food would often go dry and hard. Pirates used to eat biscuits, but they were full of weevils (tiny bugs). They would tap them on their elbow to know the weevils were out before taking a bite.

Yo ho ho! Ahoy matey! Why not celebrate your return home with some of these delicious weevil biscuits! There’s nothing a pirate likes more (except maybe treasure and grog)! Enjoy me hearty!

Yo ho ho! Pirate Certificate!
